  • Can't get 23 instances (or more!) in VEP

Hey guys, finally trying to set up all of this stuff. I'd ultimately like to build one template for orchestral things (a different one for chamber, and Hollywood-style).

Right now, I can effortlessly get 16 instance of the VSL products (Strings, Woodwinds and Brass) into one instance of VEP, but then it gets weird. From there, I can add a second instance and get all the VSL percussion (6 matrices of SEE+), but in THAT instance, when I try to add my voices (5 instances of EWSC) those Play items don't do anything.

I'm thoroughly convinced I'm doing something wrong because I should, I would think, be able to load all of this in a single instance, including instruments, percussion and choir.

    Here's what I have:

    Instance 1, instruments:

    Vi1

Vi2 (same as Vi1 but I will change it to make second violins)

    solo Vi

    Va

    solo Va

    VC

    Db

    solo Pfl

    Fl ens

    Ob

    solo Cl

    Cl ens

    Ba

    Ho all

    Tr all

    Tb all

...humm I seem to have forgotten the Tuba lol

That's template 1, in cubase it's mapped like this:

    Vi1 (1) (1-VEP - MIDI in 1)

    Vi2 (2) (same as above)

solo Vi (3) (same as above)

    etc...till

Tb (16) (same as above, ie 1-VEP-MIDI in 1)

Then instance 2 of VEP starts:

    Timpani (1) (2 - VEP - MIDI in 8)

    drums (2) (2 - VEP in 8)

    cymbals and gongs (per above)

    percussion (same)

    tubular bells (same)

    plate bells (same)

    etc. works fine until:

    Boys WB Dyn Mod (7) (2 - VEP - MIDI in 8)

...doesn't work nor do the other 4 instances after it.

if I replace Boys with a VSL product, does the same thing.

None of these numbers make sense to me, I would think I could go (1) 1-16, (2) 1-16, (3) 1-16 etc. but Cubase doesn't seem to work like that, and I've never done anything this complex. Cubase never goes higher than 8 for anything.

On top of the above, I have some female voices (VoP from EW) and Stormdrum and Ra I'd also like to add, so I really need to figure out how to up the instance count (instruments I mean, not VEP instances). FWIW, what IS loading, is taking up less than half my ram, and my drives, 6 of them, are all raptors, so I don't think it's a performance issue; I think it's human error, namely, mine. Any help appreciated:)

When Cubase loads, it says 32 bit, but I upgraded to 6 because it's 64 bit. I hope that's not the issue, as I don't know how to solve that, there was no 64 bit version on the DVD.

    I'm lost lol!

  • I figured it out, I think. Play likes it 1-1, 2-1, 3-1 but all other software likes it 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 etc. For Wordbuilder anyways. I have everything working, and in one instance of VEP now. Yay:) Strangely, I can tag an x-1, x-2, x-3 with other Play libraries, but I have to create a track for each in Cubase, major blows!

About 40 channels, using 10GB ram, still well under my limit. Takes about 5-10 minutes to load. Pretty soon I'll be making music again, yay! Still about 20 channels to load, or more if Play doesn't play nicely.

Is anyone paying attention to the fact that ALL my VSL stuff worked from day one, no craziness? OK I'm becoming a VSL fanboy. Can I please get a free full Percussion setup? Thank you:) J/K...
