I was hoping someone here might be able to give me some advice. I'm currently working on a piece that includes a solo Oboe. The Oboe is from the DVD woodwinds collection and I only have the Standard articulations. Obviously, I want to program as much realism as I can into the Oboe solo. Currently, I am just adjusting the velocity and C11 curves by drawing them into Cubase with my mouse. This seems to work pretty well.
I'm wondering if I will get more realistic results using the Velocity Crossfade function instead of separately trying to adjust CC11 (Expression) and the velocity. I notice that the oboe legato patches only have two velocity layers and I remember someone saying in these forums that the velocity crossfade doesn't work all that well if there aren't four velocity layers to the instrument.
What is your opinion? For solo woodwind instruments with only 2 velocity layers, do you get the most realistic solos using the velocity crossfade feature, or do you prefer setting the velocity and the C11 expression controllers separately?
Thanks for your help!
