  • Organ Range

I can't remember whether I've vented my frustration with the organ range here before but I shall vent it again. The pedals only go up to F and the manuals only go up to A. I'm no organ efficianado but the rpoject I'm working on requires pedals up to G and manuals up to C. What is the convention and why doesn't the konzerthaus rogan cover the upper range. pitch bend is tedious and doesn't cover the manual up to C any way.

    Grrrrr!

What is the answer other than buy a different organ sample set.

  • Errr .... sorry to hear about your frustration, Dave, but that's simply how this huge instrument was built. As we offer literally each and every flute from every stop (with the exception of the so-called "Fernwerk" in the back of the audience, which was too noisy and/or too out-of-shape, soundwise) I don't feel guilty, though. ;-)

In many cases, there are the same (or at least similar) stops with different footages available, like Bordun 16' / Bordun 8', or Trumpet 16' / Trumpet 8', so maybe you just have to build a different registration to fulfill your needs.

    Kind regards,

  • Every real pipe organ is unique and pipes don't necessarily cover any standard range.  You'd be far more frustrated on some of the live pipe organs I have played.  Also, this sampled organ has every pipe individually sampled, on one of the great organs of the world, and is perhaps the most perfect of all the VSL instruments.   So it seems highly inappropriate for somebody to go off on it.

  • Well there it is - the piece I'm trying to realise has pedals up to G and manuals up to C.

Part fo the problem is undoubtedly that I am an organ ignoramus so i don't understand how changing registration will help if none of the individual stops or registrations has those upper notes!

Hey Ho! Creating great music was never easy and if it was it probably wouldn't be great music.

Is there no possibility of VSL ever providing a solution to stretch the range of their samples as we used to be able to do in Gigastudio. VSL has gradually embraced many of the forces of the dark side itn their own inimitable way it seems a shame they can't embrace this devilish practice.

  • Oh, you were talking about the ready-made registrations. Sorry, didn't realize.

I referred to single stops, where a 8' will sound one octave higher as an 16', for example.

  • VI Pro v2.0 can stretch patch ranges beyond their normal ranges. (Within reasonable limits)

  • That is such welcome news Martin - can you reveal what a reasonable range might be - personally I would hope for up to a fifth?

  • I have set the limit to +/- 4 semitones currently.
