  • Sound set

    Hi Andi,

Probably this question was asked before; there is a sound set for full solo strings ? I'm planing to expand my solo strings with extended edition due to the complexity of the score, but since I'm a Sibelius user, I still prefer to work with sound set and notes rather ...

Also , can you give me a tip for avoiding the effect of an apogiatura when there are staccato notes and after comes a pack of legato notes? for some reasons I hear a kind of apogiatura right in front of the first legato note ( basically in between the last staccato and first note legato).

I use Sibelius 6.2 the special edition + sound sets and VI pro; I just notice that there are some settings for the regular VI ( CC11 expresions set to none and transferred to velocity cross fade)..do I have to proceed with the same thing in VI pro? It looks like there are different Cc assigments there..

Please let me know, and also sorry for my long novel ;))

    Thanks

    B

  • Hello Bogdan!

The Solo Strings sound set comes with presets for the standard and the extended version. So you will be able to use additional articulations from the extended content instantly. It's right, that we also made a full sound set with presets for most of our collections. Please be aware, that there is no documentation for this sound set and you will have to learn how to fully use it by studying it with the Sound Set Editor. If you want it, I can send it to you.

To avoid this apogiatura effect you are describing, shorten the Live duration of the preceding note. You can find more details about that in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual, page 17.

If you want to use Velocity XFade with VI Pro and Sibelius, you can do that the same with as with VI (CC11 for Vel XFade, None for Expression).

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks Andi,

As always with good and precious advise. For now I'll stick with the sound sets you prepared..later on maybe I'll spend some time in working with unsupported sound sets and play around with them..but till then..I'm happy with what you did!

Once again thanks and sorry for forgetting about your PDF file with all the hints and tips..

  • Hey Andi,

Once again, the TIP with shortening the values (live durations) is GREAT deal!!

     Super trick

    Thanks again

  • Hi Andi,

Sorry for asking you again, but can you tell me what kind of articulations are included in the sound sets for extended edition L2..just some hints of course, not the entire list; for example zigane legato , harsh and other sweet "things" are included?

    Thanks

    Helo Bogdan,

a detailed sample content list for each product can be found on the product page, right below the product shot.

Here is the link to the Solo Strings Sample Content!

I have also just sent you a demo license activation code (30 days) for the Extended Library, so you can evaluate the additional content!

    Best,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks a lot for 30 days evaluation; I was also asking Andi, if the sound set created for Sibelius contains the L2 articulations, or at least some of them?maybe I wasn't so clear...

Once again thanks for the demo; anyway, I bet L2 is awesome

    Thanks again

  • Hi Bogdan!

Here are some of the additional articulations in the Solo Strings extended presets for Sibelius:
    sus_espressivo
    col legno
    some additional sul ponticello articulations
    various sul tasto articulations

Zigane is not included, but espressivo is. If you prefer zigane, you could replace the espressivo articulation with the zigane one. Harsh is also not included, but you could replace spiccato with the harsh articulation and trigger it with the staccatissimo mark.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Thanks again Andi,

    I'll give it a try with the demo to see how it works by replacing the articulation ( hopefully I'm gonna get the process right) ;

Many thanks for helping me out with this,

    Best
