    Hi,

    I never heard this before, but today there was a crackling sound added to all the pristine VSL samples. [;)]

    I will try to restart all the stuff that can be restarted and try to set up 3 64bits instances instead the 2 64 bits and 1 32 bits instances I currently have but still I find it strange why this happens. Must be a memory thing, right? Anyone?

    OK, I've been busy with this from 9.00 tot appr. 12.10...

    Am I right that it is NOT possible to have 3 instances of VE 64bits? I created/adjusted my setup for the 3rd time saved it, resaved it and took really good care of what I was doing.

    I want 3 instances of 64 bits VE's. Then I save it. Restart my computer. Relaunched Sibelius. and voila 3 instances of VE; 2 of them 64 bits and 1 of 32 bits. What am I doing wrong? I think that the crackling has to do something with my computers memory, but I am not sure.

    (Edit: I looked again to my "previoulsy saved" project but it appeared that the adjustments were not saved at all, although I really saved them - a lot of times and with great consideration)

    I am building the whole set up from scratch, and I tried to playback the strings setup... but it still crackles.

    Help! Anybody... (I don't want to spend another day on fixing, I just want to work...[:@])

    Hello Arnold!

    What kind of crackling do you experience? I don't think, that it has something to do with your RAM. Maybe you have performance (CPU or hard drive) issues. To which values does the CPU meter of your VE instances rise?

    When working with Velocity XFade on a lot of tracks, the number of samples which has to be streamed at the same time may be pretty high. So this may also be the reason.

    It could also be, that your output level is too high. In this case turning down the levels (either in the Sibelius or the VE mixer) should do the trick.

    The CPU percentage on my activity monitor says that VE uses around 75 to 80% CPU power. And when it plays back it is around 145% (???)

    On the instances itself (now all rebuild to 64 bits instances) it reads out appr. between 2.5 and 7 %

    I also tried your advice to lower the volume, but that doesn't seem to decrease the problem. And, I to my knowledge don't work with the X-Fade property, but I'll check that out later on.

    Edit 01 (Oh, maybe it is good to know that I just updated my Protools 8 to Protools 9. Before I updated this crackling was not occuring, and it appears to be that after the update the problem may also be CoreAudio related, but I am not sure about that. I couldn't find any info/familiair problems about that too on the DUC forum)

    Hi Arnold,

     

     

    There are two crucial settings you should adjust in Pro Tools itself if you havenĀ“t done so yet:

     

    Please select Setup/Playback Engine and set the number of Host (RTAS) Processors to at most one less than your computer is actually equipped with, as well as CPU Usage Limit to 90%.

     

    Please let us know wether this made a difference!

    Hi All,

    Thanks for your replies. Yesterday finally I happened to find an odd solution to the crackling problem. In Sibelius I opened the Audio Engine Options; the Buffer size was at maximum (1024 samples) and the Sample rate 48000 Hz. I switched the samplerate to 41kHz and back to 48kHz again. After that I changed the buffer size to a very low buffer size and than back again to the original state and presto! No more crackling!!

    Weird huh?

    Till now, everything runs smoothly. But I intentionally left my computer on this night so I can work normally again without any surprises for I don't know if this is a stable fix. But it worked!
