  • New to VSL!!!!

Hey guys, I just purchased the Vienna Special Edition Bundle from Sweetwater.com and I feel like a little boy on Christmas Eve! I’ve always coveted the VSL instrument library and I can finally afford to step into that realm. I'm moving up from Miroslav Philharmonik and though it was a fairly decent orchestral sampler for me as a beginner, I am ready to making some real quality orchestral compositions with a more realistic sampler and articulations. After much deliberation, many hours of YouTube tutorials and demos, forum reading, site research, and critical listening, I finally decided on Vienna. I actually ruled out East West Hollywood Strings pretty easily and it became more of a decision between LA Scoring Strings and VSL. I didn't see East West as a versatile sampler for smaller ensembles or more intimate compositions. It lacked a lot of articulations that VSL and LASS contained. And though LASS was a dream to listen to, the full version was a little out of my current price range and the bundle for the LITE and First Chair versions lacked the Divisi section (the meat of the software) Furthermore, LASS and East West are string samplers only while Vienna provides the full range of orchestral sections. I also love the fact that Vienna has such a huge library that I can continue adding components and special instruments. Anyway, I'll stop boring you gentlemen with the details for now, and look forward to sharing and learning from you guys in the future... 3 more days!....

  • Welcome to the VSL family [:)]

  • Also, welcome.  Especially if you write in a wide variety of styles, you will find VSL wonderful to work with.  The VI software (even the non-pro version) is so logical and well laid out, and so flexible.  It is very easy to create any type of ensemble you may need.

Long-term, if you have the necessary computer power, IMO, things get even better within MIR SE.  One of the "problems" with VSL is that once one enters the VSL world, there are just so many good things to hope to eventually add.

  •  Thanks for the welcome fellas...I'm going to try everything in Sonar X1, including its Sonitus and convolution reverb first to see how everything works and turn to Vienna's MIR and or Instruments PRO if I can't find a good workflow or sound with that.

And yes, I'm already drooling over Apassionata strings... I can see this is going to be a "problem"...

You better believe it is 😉

  • Just got a chance to install Vienna and create my first piece this weekend and boy and I blown away! My absolute best work with Miroslav Philharmonik sounds like pure, 100% crap compared to the quality and realism of Vienna. And I only spent like and hour on this compared to hours upon hours trying to wring out the best of Miroslav... Seriously, it was difficult to listen to some of my old pieces, I think I'll be going back and redoing a lot of them with Vienna. Love this product!

  • Hi jake11375,

Definitely you're not the only one who decided to go back and redo some things [;)].....Good for you since you haven't spent a lot of money searching for other libraries..

Indeed is the best product out there IMHO.

    All the best

  • Can't help with the post, but I think I might know Bogdan, sorta. I used to work at Kahlua Music in the 80s-90s and I seem to recall a Bogdan who frequented the place (I was in rentals lol and for some reason I think you knew my neighbour, great drummer, John Dobson, I'm getting old don't remember correctly lol). As you're from Ontario, your name rang a bell.

Small world if it is you:)

    Shawn

  • hello shawngibson,

At that time I wasn't in Ontario and never heard about John Dobson :((

Sorry for disappointing you, although I believe the fact that your friend was a great drummer :)).

Indeed is a very hard name to forget (Bogdan) especially if you take into consideration in how many ways can be pronounced. Sometimes is so funny, and make me laugh all the time !!

     Anyway,

All the best from Ontario and nice meeting you

    B

  • Ah cool. I thought Bogdan was rare around here:) What language is it?
