Aroused isn't the word, I'm all pointy like a strategic ICBM![:P] You have a fantastic thing going, Dietz.
Btw, what do you mean with:

MIR Pro is around two corners š. "First half of 2011" is still our goal, although it might be some kind of photo-finish.
2 corners? Photo-finish?
If first half of 2011 is your goal, that means you have 56 days to get her out into space - which makes me a very happy camper![:D]
Hi there,
It is the first time I am writing in this forum.
My question is the next>
I am running an Accel3 ProTools system and MIR on the same computer.
a supermicro DP Motherboard X8DA6 / 2 x XEON CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz / 28GB Ram.
I am allocating 8 cores for MIR and 8 for PT.
Will this be suficient enough for MIR Pro? And ...How could I allocate in the best possible manner the resources of this machine in order to keep PT and MIR happy?
Please advise
Welcome ys_11062, thanks for your interest in Vienna MIR and MIR Pro.
You are most certainly aware of the fact that you will need a 64-bit OS to use MIR. 28 GB should be plenty for the typical "big" project, but maybe not when ProTools does a lot of RAM-intensive jobs too. 8 cores will make MIR happy, as long as you don't reach for really dense arrangements in multi-channel formats. The guidlines for optimum resource management will be in MIR Pro's manual (... please remember, we're still in Beta-phase).
BTW .... RAM size is not the only crucial parameter, but also its bus speed. The quite unusual size of 28 GB makes me suspect that there could be a bottleneck somewhere, depending in your specific configuration. - I would have to ask our local IT-gurus for an educated opinion, though. :-)
Kind regards,

Therefore I am assuming that there will be a reasonable upgrade path for users who own MIR, and perhaps for those who own both MIR and VE pro?
It has already been stated that there will be an upgrade path for current MIR users. However, as there was no discount for VE Pro users when getting MIR, I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.
That's obviously a question for our marketing team, but I can assure you that I will stick up personally for very reasonable up- and crossgrades for our loyal customers.
BTW ... it won't be the "VE Pro" you know by now that MIR Pro will use as underlying platform (... hint, hint ;-) ...).
Hi Dietz thank you for the reply.
I am on 64bit and I will give a look at the bus speed. For the time being the projects are quite OK (around 16 instruments in MIR and 24-36 audio channels in Pro Tools). I do not expirience problems.
I did ask about MIR Pro because I am producing in music combine ethnic instruments(PT) and Symphonic sound (MIR). I would love to have all the sound in the same space though.
I have two more questions:
a) when I uncheck Natural Volume and try to re-edit the Instrument Profile the Natural Volume is still Checked though the Volume is changed.
b) After starting MIR some times apears the Ensemble Pro (under MIR) some times does not. Do I something wrong?
ad a) Natural Volume - this is by design. The "Natural Volume" is meant to be used as a starting point and is only available when instantiating a new instrument within MIR. You are right that the fact that the option stays selected visually once you have changed the volume according to your needs might be misleading. - With MIR Pro, you will be able to return to this reference point at any time.
ad b) This shouldn't happen. Are you able to reproduce this behaviour consistently? - In any case, it doesn't hurt the actual function of MIR.
Kind regards,
Hi Dietz,
its not consistent and I have no problem with MIR. I just did not understand.
Thank you any how
I've had that happen to me as well!
Imagine my suprise when I click the MIR icon and suddenly Ensemble Pro appears on my screen, a program I don't own a licence for or even have installed on my computer.[:O]
Dietz can you elaborate on why this happens and what connection there is between these two applications?
I can't tell you exactly why this happens, otherwise we would have made sure that this confusing behaviour can't occur. :-)
... the connections between the two applications is obvious and was mentioned several times before: MIR is not only a powerful convolution engine, but also a VST host; in the background, it uses the core of Vienna Ensemble for all VST / VSTi / MIDI-related tasks.
BTW - MIR Pro will bring a true integration of MIR into Vienna Ensemble Pro. This will push the possibilities of the two products to a new completly new level.
Kind regards,
I was on the verge of acquiring VE Pro, and then decided to test MIR SE - seeing as it also can host 3rd party vsti's now.. and as I feared, I liked what MIR can do for me quite a bit. [Y]
I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed though - the bulk of my composing work takes place in Finale. Because of how Finale functions, the way VE Pro works (by loading itself as a vst in Finale, but at the same time functioning and hosting the libraries externally) is ideal - it circumvents certain limitations of Finale, but at the same time keeps its playback happy. At present MIR has to be run externally and connected by midi - this does not work very well with Finale, it is a nightmare I had to deal with in the past and do not wish to return to. From what I understand, MIR Pro would be the obvious solution to this as it would combine the best of both of the existing applications.. is this how it will work? Will MIR Pro load itself as a vst while still operating externally? Will there be an "SE Pro" version as well?
And the question that concerns me most right now (and I know this has been brought up in this thread before, but there was no answer), if I were to buy VE Pro so that I can work now, will MIR Pro render this purchase redundant in only a few weeks (or months)?
Iām very impressed with the new Hybrid reverb! I hope that you include the new algo-tail used in Hybrid in the new MIR Pro.
Hello Dietz
Did you manage to go over the 16 midi channel with Logic ?
If you need a beta tester with a 12 Core 2.93 ghz Mac, 24 GB, raid 0 of 4 x ssd, I am volunteer !
Best
