  • [Solved] Vienna Samples From Older Project Won't Load

    Hello Forum,

    I am trying to open a project from 2008 and none of the Vienna samples are loading. What's more confusing is that when I open a particular instrument's instance it shows that no samples are loaded at all.

    Why is this? I have upgraded the vienna software along the way, could that be the reason?

    Hello Chumley,

    Unfortunately you didn´t include any information about your system, but I assume that you are working on OS X.

    Here is more information about this, I believe:

    "OS X: Please note that Vienna Instruments 2.1 or higher is not compatible with versions older than 2.0 build 4017.

    If you are upgrading from an older version, please open and save your songs with Vienna Instruments 2.0 build 4017 first, available in the Archive below.
    Then upgrade to the latest Vienna Instruments Software."

    Hey Paul,

    Sorry about omitting the system info. I am using OS X  Version 10.5.8 on a G5 PPC 4 x 2.5 GHz 

    Thanks for the tip. I gave it a shot and unfortunately it didn't work. It's weird, it's as if someone actually went in and deleted all of the patches and matrices I had set up. Some other projects from that time period open just fine with either the 2.0 or 2.1 build and then some others don't. 

    Originally, after backing up all of these projects and then re-opening them only months later, I remember never having a problem with them. It's been about two years since the last time I opened any of these projects and now they don't have the samples there. Any other suggestions or am I doomed to have to re-create and load the sample matrices?

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks. I sent a song to support and they responded with the following:

    "Hi Chumley,

    I just opened your project with Vienna Instruments 2.0 build 4017 and everything loaded fine.

    I saved it again (calling it "STCue1m1OpeningTitlesFinalEndChange2") and opened it after installing Vienna Instruments build 8008 and it loaded allright, so it should actually work now for you as well - I attached the file to this message.

    But just to be sure, please go to /Users/*your name*/VSL/Vienna Instruments/, delete the cache.bin file you will find there and restart your computer before you load the project!"

    I followed Marnix's suggestion and everything worked out great, I was able to load the project.
