Sibelius 6.2 and VE Pro on Slave Computer
Hello, I am a new VE Pro user and I am experiencing a weird problem so I would really appreciate your help! I am running Sibelius 6.2 on my master computer (MacBook Pro) and VE Pro (the latest version) on a slave PC running Win7 64-bit SP1. On my slave PC I also have some EWQL instruments including the SO Platinum Plus which I am trying to use as a source for sibelius. So, here's my problem : 1. I open sibelius on my master computer 2. I open a VE Pro 64-bit server on my slave and create a VE Pro instance on which I load a PLAY VSTi which I then configure as I want (MIDI Ch.1 instrument x, MIDI Ch.2 instrument y and so on). 3. Then, I go to sibelius and from Playback Devices I choose VE Pro as the sound source. 4. Finally, from the Sibelius Mixer, I load the VE Pro interface and connect to the instance I have created on my slave and set the MIDI Channels to match those I have set at the PLAY interface for each instrument. When I press the 'test tone' button for each instrument on the sibelius mixer, the instrument sounds perfectly well. However, when I press playback on sibelius, nothing happens!!!!! I am sure I am doing something wrong but I can't find what it is. PLEASE HELP!!!! Thank you in advance for any advice! Best, Stellita

Hello Stellita!
It seems to me, that your connection from Sibelius to VE Pro is correct. In order to be able to help you to find the problem, I have a few questions.
Which instruments do you want to use PLAY for?
Which sound set do you use?
Did you make any settings on the Manual Sound Sets page?
Do your PLAY instruments have the ability to switch between different articulations?
If yes, what kind of MIDI commands will take care of these switches?Best regards,
Andi

Hello Andi! Thank you very much for your reply. I am trying to use 3 instances of VE Pro (each containing 1 instance of PLAY). Each of these PLAY instances is loaded with an assortment of Orchestral instruments all coming from EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Plus. For example instance 1 is mostly strings, instance 2 brass etc. Regarding sound sets, I tried using General MIDI and then set up the instruments manually from "Manual Sound Sets" so that the midi channels match the configuration of the PLAY instances (e.g. Channel 1 Flute , Channel 2 solo violin etc). Also, regarding articulations, I don't use KS instruments within PLAY because I don't know how to trigger those from Sibelius. Instead, I have created 2 staves for each instrument in my score, one for legato and one for short articulations which I will merge when the score is finished. Again, thank you for taking the time to help! Best, Stellita

Hi Stellita!
Thanks for the details. As far as I can see everything is configured correctly.
Did you set the channels in your VE Pro instances to Omni? This would be necessary to trigger a multitimbral instrument like PLAY.
Can you see MIDI input coming to Vienna Ensemble during playback? This would be indicated by a blinking LED at the very left of your loaded instruments in Vienna Ensemble Pro.Best,
Andi
