  • VSTs appearing in Mac Devices Configuration list

I'm new to Sibelius (6.2.0; on Mac OSX, 10.6.6). Working to understand all the ins and outs of playback with virtual instruments.

I have Vienna Special Edition on an external hard drive. It's always successfully found (e.g. in Logic Pro 9) thanks to what I assume has to be a correct setup of Directory manager.

May I ask two questions, please:

    1. I ran the Vienna Ensemble installer (on Mac OS): why do Vienna Instruments VST and Vienna Ensemble VST devices show up in Sibelius 6 available devices?

    2. When do I use Vienna Instruments as my device; when do I use Vienna Ensemble as my device?
    Thanks so much.

  • Hello Mark!

Vienna Ensemble is our host and mixing environment for the Vienna Instruments. It enables you to load multiple Vienna Instruments on different channels. With Sibelius I recommend always using Vienna Ensemble.

At the following location you can find our Sibelius & Vienna Ensemble tutorial video:

Also check out the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual and the Vienna Ensemble manual. They can be downloaded here:
