I bought Solo Strings and Chamber strings several years ago. I loved the sounds but was not too keen on the 'performance tool' which was fiddly to set up and not very intuitive.

Now I'm dusting off my mixing desk and returning to making music I was hoping that the software had improved, and indeed it seems that it has. I've logged into my account on the website but can't see my registered products and cant work out how to get the new software. The 'vienna key' is totally new to me, this wasn't required last time I used VSL products.

    Any guidance appreciated.

  • You can't get the new product without paying for it, I'm afraid. The Vienna key is the same as the dongle that is used for Steinberg products, If you use Cubase, Nuendo then you already have it.

  • OK. It looks like what I want is the 'Vienna Instruments' software, but I can't find where to buy it on the website. I can find only the pro version.

  • The software is a free download once you buy the sample product that you want. The Pro software is an optional extra at an optional extra cost.

  • Hi Trip,

The original libraries you licensed ("Purchased") are not compatible with the latest software.

To use the new player software you would need to purchase new samples/libraries that are compatible with them. There was a fairly long crossover period where a discount was offered on the extended versions of the new libraries if you had originally purchased earlier versions.

Perhaps an e-mail to VSL sales will provide you with the options they currently offer for the new players.

  • Thanks Julian, that clarifies the position. Not a very good position from my point of view but at least it's clear ;)
