hello, im a complete novice at pc music, played synths&keyboards for years.Recently been thinking of buying motif xf,then after looking through various sites ive started thinking mabye of buying a sample library, pos Vsl standard plus, but would like some advice. Can these library samples be played back useing my keyboard without having to use extra software, ie cubase logic etc. Also are these samples as good as the sound in the demos. I have an old copy of sibelius ive never taken too seriously because its only ever used the basic pc sound card which wasnt very inspiring to put it mildly. Also could anyone advise on the best software to run these librarys. Any advice very much appreciated

- Yes you can play them back from your synth keyboard, as long as you have a soundcard on your PC. However, if you wish to record the output, you will need to use a 3rd party plug, and play in real time.
- The samples are exactly the same as in the demos. However, playing them in real time (apart form the fact that it is really difficult to play more than one instrument at a time) will not sound anywhere near as good.
- You can use Sibelius for playback. Some people get reasonable results, but for the best results you need a sequencer. I would say that Cubase would be the best for your needs. It is a little bit daunting, but once you get past the basics (that are the same in any sequencer) you should be OK.

you would be using the Motif as a midi controller and to use it controlling software you'll want to set 'local control (ie., of its sounds) off'.
you'll want a *good* sound card to get low latency (audio in software is 'buffered'), using its 'ASIO drivers'.

Inside, in a northbridge slot [PCI-e] is the fastest connection. I use an RME Multiface 2, which has a breakout box via FW, certainly not the most expensive but not extremely cheap. I recommend RME as nearly no one reports problems with the drivers on either platform, I'm very happy with mine.
