Hi to the forum,
I am having a really unusual problem with Cubase 5. I'm on Windows 7 64 bit. and I noticed that when playing in a string passage that uses the string runs from the Orchestral String runs violins extended library, that when I am recording and playing the samples on my midi keyboard, it sounds fine, but then when I go to play the passage back, the string runs sound quite 'nasal'.
[I should make the point that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the samples themselves].
I thought maybe I had changed some settings in Cubase, so I did a system restore to a couple of days ago, and then tried to see if there was any difference, and there was none, and I also downloaded the latest cubase 5 update, and still no change in the problem.
I then undid the system restore, and made sure I did the Cubase update again, but still the same problem.
I thought I was maybe imagining things, so in the end I made a music file in Sibelius 6 with an orchestral string SE matrix, and then added a string runs cell to it. I then exported the sibelius file as a midi file, and then used the same matrix as I had in Sibelius 6, and they playback was fine.
I don't know what is causing this. I have looked at the velocity of the notes in the played in one, and changed them to all 127 and still no change. It's a little baffling as you can definitely hear the difference, even though it is the same cubase project playing back with the same samples - except it's me physically playing them in for the second extract you hear.
If you listen to the mp3 example you hear the Sibelius 6 file that was exported as a midi file first, and then the second example is myself doing an approximate copying of what was in the midi file, by playing another copy of the reconstructed matrix I used for the Sibelius file.

I'm not sure what's causing this. Has anyone come across this problem before?
thanks heaps if there is any possible comments or ideas on this.
best,
Steve.
