    Hi,

    I've been trying to get my set up to work but after about 4 or 5 midi tracks of Strings / Horns . . . I start getting the dreaded stutter and clicks.
    Only using about 58 Voices at a time ( Max)
    But the CPU is freaking out all the time - from 20 to 180 or higher.

    My Set Up Is -

    P4 2Gh
    Windows XP
    2 Gig Ram
    120 Gig -main drive (with Giga on it )
    100 Gig -second drive ( with VSL on it )
    Giga Version 2.53.05
    This version was suppose to fix my CPU meter from freaking out all the time but it didn't.

    Arrdvark Direct Pro LX6 - with their new driver for Giga ( vers. 7.04)

    I think they only just released this version in Dec. 2002

    I've talked to a couple of people (M-Audio and Giga Tech ) and they said it sounds like my drivers for sound is causing problems.

    I was going to get the Delta 1010 (M-Audio).

    Do you think this will solve my problem.

    Hello Lipro,

    I'm not a tech guy, but I'm working with the Delta 1010 without any poblems. We have also good experience with RME cards.

    Maybe CM could give you some further advises.

    This had me baffled a bit . . . and to make matters worse I have 2 weeks to finish a piece for a Museum Dedecation I was hired to do.

    I've been slowly getting by but I know the potential of GS should be better than what I'm getting.

    I thought I must be doing something wrong. Or the only thing left to do is get a different sound card.

    I have an extra computer laying around which I'll update to use with Giga.

    But I should be able to lay down 4 midi tracks without the clicks and stutters. ( I hope )

    If your using the 1010 then I will pick it up in the morning.

    Thanks again . . . . and all other ideas are very welcome.

    some users needed to disable the *filespy.sys* in their GS on W2K/XP

    what does filespy? it monitors changes you make to your filesystem on the selected drives for rebuilding the sound-database *on the fly*
    as access to the filesystem is a kernel-process it takes a lot of cpu-power at a high priority, so all other processes have to wait, until the operation is finished

    since W2K/XP handles the *time-slices* more strict than W95/W98, has the ability to manage more RAM and harddisks on such systems usually are bigger you will observe this effect especially there

    for the time being i can give you only this hint, we are already investigating these and other side-effects on GS-W2K/XP-systems

    I went to settings . . . . I take it that 'filespy" refers to the "Monitor File Activity" box . . . . so I unchecked it and no change. I saw no box titled "filespy" or "filespy.sys" so I hope I did it right. I'm not that all familliar with Giga since I've only had it two weeks.

    If that was the wrong box let me know.
