  • VST Expression - Cubase

    Hi guys !

Has anyone managed to use VST Expression in a smooth and handy way ? In my opinion, it's very inconvenient, because you instantly lose the main feature of vienna instruments : flexibility. On the other hand, Keyswitches are not really convenient either.

So I think it would be really interesting to know what people do. As for me, i use KS (used vst expression before, but was very disappointed)

    Thx.

    David

  • I'm thinking the same thing. Optimal would be to be able to record your keyswitches, and that it "gets" that it's a VST expression and not a key in that particular part. Is this possible?

  • I don't think so. It's not even possible to record a modwheel on a track with VST expression.

There's one thing I quite don't get : VST Expression is not flexible at all, but on the other hand, VST expression maps given by vsl cannot trigger the whole patches... So, once you decide to use VST expression maps with vsl matrices, it's over, you won't be able to use the whole stuff, unless you do your own expression maps (kind of what you were trying to avoid downloading premade expression maps) with your own presets (very, very, very time consuming (just to figure how expression maps work took me several hours (to understand how to avoid glitches)), or multiple tracks of the same instrument (kind of the opposite of VSL philosophy)

Nevertheless, it's very kind of VSL to give us these expression maps, it's just that it's not a viable system for now.
