  • Velocity Crossfade - How Does It Manipulate Samples?

I use the velocity crossfade feature regularly. Can anyone tell me what is going on inside the program? Is the program adjusting:

    1. Volume?

    2. Timbre?

    3. Cross-fading between samples? For example, the Orchestral Violin patch VI-14 perf-legato sus-4V has four velocity layers in the "sustain patches" and two velocity layers for legato (if I am reading the manual correctly). So does velocity cross-fade "step" from one sample to the next as controller values pass 55, 88, and 108? Or is it "cross-fading" between the four sustain samples as it goes through those ranges? And since there are only two legato velocity layers, is the velocity cross-fade feature using volume adjustments to match the legato samples as it goes through these ranges?

I'm sorry if I'm not articulating this well enough - but I'm really curious and hope someone can help me understand this better.

    Thanks!

    Steve
