  • How do I get the free VE Pro download

I have VE4, but when I go to my user area (VE Pro), it says there are no files to download (other than the manuals), so where do I download the VE Pro from? Although I have the Vienna Super Package, I have only registered two collections so far, do I have to register more before I can get the VE Pro download? I must say, the web site generally just sends me around in loops, This is frustrating, as I have the library, but until VE Pro works on the network, I can't use anything. What is also confusing is that the web site states the VE Pro is free to registered VE3 users, but I never had to register VE3, it just worked after I registered a DVD collection, so as the info states, you use the same license (what license?), can anyone explain all this in a way that makes sense, because I just can't figure out what is going on here. thanks Andy

  •  AFAIK VE3 always required a dongle with a licence. Are you sure you haven't been running VE2?

  •  Hi Andy,

only Vienna Ensemble (version 4.1)) is a free version, available for everybody who has registered at least one Vienna Instruments library.

Vienna Enseble PRO is not free, but you can download a demo on the product page to check it out.

    http://vsl.co.at/en/211/497/1685/1693/1342.htm

(clicking on the TRY button when you are logged in, will enable you to "buy" a demo license for 0 €)

After completing this purchase process you will see the download files in the User Area in the Vienna Ensemble PRO section.

For clarification, the VE3 version was the prequel with costs of Vienna Ensemble PRO, so all users who have already payed for VE3 got the Vienna Ensemble PRO update for free.

  • This all seems a bit devious then. When you read this:- Vienna Ensemble PRO is a free upgrade for users of Vienna Ensemble 3. If you’re a user of Vienna Ensemble 3 you don’t need to download a new license, just log on to the User Area and download the software right away! And you are told you can download VE because you just bought some libraries (I didn't know which version was available, I assumed Version 3 was the latest), but it seems you can only download version 2 and version 4, which don't qualify? A bit much really, just spent all that on the Super Package, and now I've got to pay another £175 to get it to work, very misleading onfo on the web site, and I suppose the VI Pro that is working in VE is going to time out, as I now suspect that is only in demo mode, so don't tell me, another £175 to get that to work as well? I was so excited about the whole VSL thing, it's all going sour now...........

  • You don't need VE Pro (or even VE3) to make things work. There is a free VI player and a free VE host. You only have to upgrade to VE/VI Pro if you want to. If not, then don't.

What is your proposed set-up? Give some details, and we might be able to give some advice.

  • I have set up another PC running 64-bit Windows 7 to get 24GB of RAM, this PC is networked to my main PC (32-bit Windows XP) running Cubase (UAD/powercore etc). So I need to have VE Pro to get the networking. I have now installed the VE Pro demo, and all is working as expected. I just feel that the info on the web site was not really clear as to what was free with library purchases, I think it is clear that I must have VE Pro, maybe the site should remove the "free upgrade from VE3" bit as a new user like myself doesn't know what the current version of VE is until a library is registered and the download becomes available, you always assume the latest version is the best, but in this case it isn't as version 3 to VE Pro is free, but version 4 to VE Pro is not so free. Does anyone know if the VI Pro that is working is in demo mode and is going to time out, there doesn't seem to be anyway of establishing this, as VEP Pro is not free, I assume VI Pro isn't either, so why is it working at the moment?

  •  Yes, VI Pro will time out, so if you're not going to buy it, don't test it out, in case you feel you can't do without it....!

but in this case it isn't as version 3 to VE Pro is free, but version 4 to VE Pro is not so free.

as herb already pointed out the confusion might be based on the vienna ensemble development over the past years.

when VE came out ist started with version 2, later network capability has been added for version 3, also the naming was VE3 and VE2 remained free.

august 2009 VE 3 has been completely revamped and renamed to VE PRO (now including epic orchestra as bonus library) whereas the free VE2 has been renamed to simply *Vienna Ensemble* http://vsl.co.at/newsletter/113/Newsletter113_en.htm

since then all vienna software products have been developed further and for compatibility reasons (of the audio engine) re-versioned to 4

so Vienna Instruments (player) and Vienna Ensemble is still free for all users of any Vienna Instruments Library, Vienna Instruments PRO and Vienna Ensemble PRO is software with extended features and requires additional licensing.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thanks for all the info, I am new to the VSL world, so still discovering things at the moment. and the fair warning of " if you're not going to buy it, don't test it out, in case you feel you can't do without it....!" was too late, as I have been trying it, and I am going to have to buy it, I demo'd the Vienna Suite as well, that was also a daft thing to do, as I need to buy that as well now.........
