  • VE Percussion articulation changes in Sibelius

Ok. I must be doing something stupid but I can't get the timpani in VE Percussion collection to do simple things like switch from single strokes to rolls and back. I have read the appropriate docs (How to use the Sibelius Sound Set VE Percussion) and implemented all the appropriate instructions (I think).

I use all the VSL Special Edition instruments with no problem, including other percussion instruments from the percussion library, but the timpani is not working like the others. (and yes I load Presets, not Matrices into VE for the percussion set.

Can someone at VSL please help me?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello jlbmuse!

    Please check the following things:
Did you load the VE Percussion sound set in Sibelius?
Did you make channel and program settings for all activated Vienna Ensemble instances on the Playback Devices/Manual Sound Sets page?
Which preset did you load? You should load one of the presets that came with the sound set. They are called "Timpani A L1" for the Percussion Standard collection and "Timpani A L2" and "Timpani B L2" for the extended collection.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks Andi

Sorry about responding to the email alert instead of the forum.

With your help, I was able to solve the problem. I must say though that I had copied the VI Presets into a folder called "VSL custom data" already (I checked that before writing originally). But there seems to have been two such folders... Don't ask me how... Anyway things are working fine now.

    Thanks for your quick responses.

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff!

Great, that it's working now. The location of the VSL Custom Data can be set in the Directory manager. So if you have two, I suggest moving the content to the one that's set up in the Directory Manager and then removing the other one.

    Best,
    Andi
