  • newbie question

hello everyone, i'm new to the vsl community, having just purchased the vienna special edition. i'm working on a slightly older system (powermac g5, cubase sx3) and i have a beginner question: using vsl as a plugin in cubase, do i have to open a new instance of vsl for every single instrument i want to use? because that would imply that i have to open 20 or more instances for a full orchestra, and i don't think that my computers cpu power is even close to handle that. or is there a way of assigning single instruments to seperate midi channels within a single vsl instance - like i am use to in other vst instruments? thanks in advance for your answers...

  • Hello sheik,

did you tryed out the VSL Ensemble?

    http://vsl.co.at/en/68/428/515/211.htm

There you can load VI instances and in Cubase you open one VSL Ensemble Plug-In.
With the right Midi-Channel you´ve given in the Ensemble you can play the specified VI.

  • I am not sure if Vienna Ensable is the right answer here ;)

Yes, one Instrument needs on Instance of VI. However you have several possibilities in optimising the performance.

     * Use the freeze function on all Tracks except the one you are currently working on

     * Use the Learn functionality to load only samplse which are needed

     * Load only articulations which are needed, not the full matrixes (makes it slightly harder to handle but saves lots of RAM)

    Best regards

    Gabriel

  • I agree with Torsten - Vienna Ensemble will do what you describe. 1 plugin with 16 MIDI channels. You can put 1 instrument on each channel.

P.S. - Are you related to Sheik Ya'as?
