  • Download instruments: crossgrade?

A minor complaint/suggestion, for my two cents worth:  I find it unusual that a registered user cannot purchase the extended versions of the individual SE/SE-plus download collections.  Even if you own both the full standard SE and SE-plus libraries you cannot purchase the individual download versions, yet someone who buys only part of these collections has an easier upgrade to the extended sample range.

  • Absolutely correct.

    I see the same problem.

Would love to expand my Special edition standard towards more string instruments and articulations.

Of course that´s possible with the extended library, but it includes lots of woodwinds, horns, brass etc,  that I don´t need at all.

With the nice actual christmas offer I may get it, nevertheless.

But the strategy behind the update scheme is a miracle to me as well in that point.

  • Yes. The difference between certain downloads insts I have and a DVD version is literally the extended part of the DVD, so that I'm buying standard twice. The break for purchasing the download towards a DVD is kind of negligible in this regard. I don't like that at all, I feel exploited.

  • True.

I saw it coming as well for the percussion libraries. Have been sneeking around the litho/vibraphone etc instruments now for around a year, but never bought them as a download. Many of the download instruments only make sense, if you definately only need this one particular instrument and are not interested in the rest of the bigger libraries. Otherwise most of the time it is better to wait until you can afford the DVD collection.

Especially strings sections make this scheme very difficult, because the prices of the full libraries are really high.

But any way around it just gives you a taste of it with limited upgrade possibilities (at least expensive). The Special edition(stnd) is an exception, because the price is very fair, but as soon as it comes to the extensions or the Special edition Plus, things change.

The strings download would be a perfect step up, if the upgrade path would be more attractive. Therefore I took the chance of the Xmas offer and got Solo strings, Apassionata and Harps + Elements.

Things might be totally different for people interested in woodwinds and trumpet stuff :)

  • - 'Elements' is the target here. I have bought three of the downloads = 3/4 of the standard library. I'd be great with this 'extended for free' if I could qualify by buying 'lithophones'. As it stands for me, not that stellar a deal.

  • O.K., I can understand VSL here.

Buying only one small instrument and qualifying for a big ( say theoretically orchestral string) library would be a dead deal for them :)

If you think about buying another full Standard library nevertheless and by that qualifying for the extended Elements DVD collection, that will be possible ( although I don´t know if it mixes well with the download standard instruments of the Elements library). Anyway, even if it works, I wouldn´t do it , because if you own all downloaded instruments you get a price reduction of ~120 Euro even without the christmas deal.

So better use it for another library, e.g. going to the extended special edition, big string libraries or something like that.

Greetings to the lovely bay area

  • I get that much, but I don't buy that at all for my situation. I get a 115 dollar break so far on the extended Elements. [Outside of the Christmas deal] I will be buying the standard library twice to qualify for buying the extended at all, having purchased [this much or all of] the standard, in fact/literally. Hence an argument for a crossgrade.
