  • New Vienna Ensemble Pro confusion -it's probably me!!!

    Hi all.

I've had VEP for three days & it's probably going to revolutionise the way I work & actually make my working day shorter -thank god!!

However here are a few sticky points i need help with.

I've created three VEP'S. One for VI Brass, one for VI Woods & one for VI Strings.

I also have an Orchestral template in DP which routes all the various outputs of the VEP's to auxillary tracks {so I can monitor with reverb on} & named audio tracks {ie; flute, picc, oboe etc..} so that at the end of the day i simply arm the tracks, press record have the digital equivalent of a 24 track tape with clean dry music on ready for my engineer to mix remotely.

So, at the start of the day my mac launches in 64 bit mode & launches the VEP servers one 32 & one 64 bit.

I then launch DP & go have a cuppa. On returning everything has loaded & i'm ready to work.

If I press 'preserve' I thought the three VEP's would be there for the day so that if i move on to 'cue 2' I don't have to reload.

Of course whats happening is the three VEP's remain active but then DP opens up three identical ones.

So, should I have an 'early morning launch sequence' & then spend the rest of the day writing with DP sequences without any VEP's in & add them once 'cue 2' is open. If this is the case how do i direct DP to the VEP's as the routing is already set up.

The second thing is the issue of the routing dropping out in DP. Does anyone else have this problem?

I open up a sequence, click the midi track for piccollo, play something & I can see the meters working in VEP but there is no sound.

I then have to add another instance of 'new stereo bundle NET3/NET4' as the current one is dead, even if i reselect it. Which means adding 20 sets of routing every cue- very time consuming & annoying.

Finally. It's occurred to me that i could set up a VEP with a whole bunch of Altiverbs in & route DP Auxillaries  to these. Using the three licences we could then have the same Altiverb VEP in the mix studio which would again save hours of setting up for each cue using the 'preserve' button.

    Is this possible.

Could you kind souls help me on this as i have an orchestral job starting tommorrow & my brain -tiny though it is- is fried!!

    Many thanks.

  • to use the one template in VE Pro while switching sequencer projects, consider them as separate projects. save the metaframes if/when you alter them, and decouple from the DP projects before closing them. opening a sequencer project that's coupled with VE Pro after the VE Pro project is loaded will reconnect, which is what happens to you. if you want to load a DP project while VE Pro is still loading (such as @ start of your day) you'll need to load a DP project that isn't connected to VE Pro, ie., you want to disconnect VE Pro as well as decouple that project from the DP project upon quitting, because it will want to connect and anything not done loading will be a duplicated.
