  • VE-PRO local host latency and CPU usage?

    Hi

If I use VE PRO  on a local host and do not set the buffer to 2 or 1 but 0 is

it still going to be a big hit to the cpu even though it does not have to go down the ethernet??

I would love to get some more kontacts out of Cubase but need the timing to be good and can't afford a

    big CPU hit.

Thanks so much for the help

    Dave

  • The CPU hit should only be slightly higher than running the plugins straight in your host. I'm not sure you'll be able to get more Kontakt's to run on the same system this way though. It shouldn't matter whether you add them in Cubase or VE Pro, it's still the same system, though VE Pro's multiprocessing may very well perform better.

  • thanks for the reply The reason I want to try to get Kontact out of Cubase is that I want to decouple so I don't have the long save times. Also I have had some problems with the Kontact mem server. thanks again David

  • Karl I just tried 0 buffer (local host) and my cpu goes crazy. When I back it off to a buffer of 2 it is fine. So it seems to make a huge difference, I am not sure why you said that if should be slight???? I tried using differnt core settings but that does not seem to make a difference please help dave

  • Did you compare how many instances you can run in VE Pro compared to straight in Cubase this way? CPU meters aren't always reliable.

  • Yes I did compare with and without.

With ve-pro and buffer set to 0 I can't even play a note becuase my CPU goes into the red.

I have to buffer it by 1 or 2 to bring down the cpu.
