  • Cubase Key Maps and keyswitches into MIR

I apologise for posting on this again in a different forum but it does now seem to be a MIR problem.

I want to use Cubase 5 to host my midi data, and sending it out to MIR SE  to make use of the Key Mapping feature.  I am new to Cubase and finding my way around, but am getting there.

The problem I am having is that in MIR none of the Key Mapping triggers are working.  I can hear the piece being played back, but just on the default samples, or if I change them manually.  Also, keyswitches are not being transmitted on playback, but strangely enough are being triggered when the midi note is inserted in the key editor in Cubase!

I have done some tests in Cubase, inserting an instrument track with VI PRO with Violins SE+ loaded, and both key maps and keyswitching work.  It just seems to be when I want to use MIR that the problem occurs.

The sample selection in VI pro in MIR is set to keyswitching before anyone asks.  The even weirder thing is that MIR will respond to other sample switching inputs, such as speed etc - just not Key switching.

If anyone can help I would be so grateful - I have wasted so much time on this!

  • Hi basso, sorry, my english is poor, but can try to help you, because I'm a user of cubase and MIR with using keyswitches and it works fine for me.

But if you want any help - maybe by the forum admins themself too - you should give some more specialised information like these:

Do you want to work with the VST - Expressionmaps for keyswitches in Cubase, or only with a custom made keyswitch system?

What's your MIDI setup for MIR? Do you use loopbe 30 on one computer or two machines with using of MOL or ipMIDI?

I suppose your problem is a problem of MIDI connection between Cubase or MIR or a problem of the MIDI out settings inside Cubase, because you wrote, in Cubase everything works fine. MIDI out settings in Cubase you find in the File - Menue under global settings.

    Kind regards

    Frank

  • Basso - as Frank said. Keyswitching works just fine here. Please give us some details, I'm sure we can work this out.

  • Hello basso!

I just tried our Special Edition PLUS Expression Maps with MIR (connected via MIDIoverLAN CP) and it worked fine.

    Please check the following things:
Did you load the Special Edition PLUS (with a "+" symbol at the end of the name) matrices in MIR?
Did you load the appropriate Special Edition PLUS Expression Maps in Cubase?
Did you assign these Expression Maps to the instruments in the Inspector?

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hey Guys, thanks for all the helpful and encouraging replies.  All the settings were as they should be, using loobe30 into MIR.  Midi was getting through to my MIR preset, just not keyswitch messages for some crazy reason.

It now seems that the MIR preset i was using ( a massive full orchestra setup) was at fault.  I tried a different project with a different MIR preset and it  works fine!  All VERY odd, but at least I can get it to work now - I guess I will just have to re-do my mega preset and take it from there.

Thanks for the steer on the Sustain articulation as well.
