  • Control assign and artiulation crossfade question

In VI pro, I have a single cell matrix, and am trying to edit that single cell matrix in patch view. From the solo strings library, I have 3 articulations arranged as follows: 1a. Staccato (x-fade) 1b. Tremolo 2a. Sustain I assigned patch 1b to CC20, and am triggering CC20 with a sustain pedal. Therefore, when I press and hold a note, then press the sustain pedal, the tremolo sounds. When I release the pedal, the tremolo stops, and the sustain resumes. Question: Is there a way to tell the sustain articulation in patch 2a to stop sounding when the sustain pedal is pressed?

  • Hi jkuehlin and welcom in the familiy here!

I'm not quite sure what you want to achieve with this setup.

    • You want to switch between tremolo and sustain with the CC20 (Pedal) Is this correct?
    • How do you want to select further articulations? (staccato,...?)

Maybe it could be helpful when you could tell us all your wishes.

Till then: Let me first explain some general things.

    X-Fade

Use the X-fade for fading through a sustained articulation. Play a sustain tone and shift the X-fader through the dynamic range of this tone.

In other words: You are able to play diminuendos, crescendos, f-p-f, p-f-p and more with this function.

I don't know whether it make sense or not to use X-fade with staccatos.

I would prefere the common "following-along-the-midi-velocity" for playing staccatos.

    Did you use Cell-Fading?

More than one sample in one cell

This possibility could be useful for combining articulations. So combine for example sustain with staccato. Adjust then the volume of the

articulation "staccato" so that the sustain get a bit more punch in its starting sound.

Or use it to combine some stopps of the Vienna Konzerthaus Organ for achieving a new sound color...
