I'm working on a film score where the budget is so non-existent that we're doing everything using samples. The lead composer has been continually knocked out by my brass and wind sounds in particular. I have mentioned to him that I use VSL quite a lot. In fact, even though I own EW libraries, Project SAM stuff, MOTU, etc. etc. I have used VSL on this project for about 95% of the scoring chores. I add some Omnisphere and Sculpture (from Logic) but largely, for the acoustic instruments, VSL has come through big time. It's been so good that the lead composer declared that he was going to buy the libraries that I use (SE and quite a few DL libs too from VSL) because he cannot get over those muted legato trumpets and trombones.
The other thing that has knocked his socks off is the Velocity X-Fade I employ on almost all of my long notes. Unlike CC11 or CC7, this changes the timbre of the sounds and really gives it that "real" sound.
Thanks VSL for making truly inspiring libraries.
