Finale 2010 won't launch without Vienna key

I am a new user recently installed VE pro on my macbook pro . Since doing so I noticed I can no longer launch finale without the key which was a problem when I was at work teaching and didn't have it with me. I realize if I was using those sounds I would need the key but I'm currently not using VE sounds for my work. I tried canceling the window when the elicenser window comes up looking for the key and finale would hang every time and I would have to force quit. I finally got it to open when i got home and inserted the key but when I tried disabling the VE AUs in the preferences it would revert back every time . Is this a known issue with finale 2010 and VE pro plugins or is there a work around so I can start up without my key? This seems to be another reason I dislike dongles. Craig

That does not seem to be the case for me. I have started up Finale 2010 mac OS10.6.4 several times with and without the key inserted . After I start finale cormidi.framework opens in my dock followed by VE server starting up. Without the key inserted I get the eLicenser control error. I try to cancel it and won't let me and Finale will crash and I have to force quit. I'd post a couple screenshots of the error windows I have although I'm not sure how to do that when posting. Craig

Hi Craig!

This is no normal behaviour. After Finale has checked the plug-ins one time with the Vienna Key attached and has been closed normally (without a crash), it doesn't check the plug-ins anymore - at least until you add or remove plug-ins the next time.

Could it be, that you have some settings in your Program Options, that automatically loads a project with Vienna Instruments or Vienna Ensemble? Such documents can only be opened with the Vienna Key attached.

No I've never used vienna with Finale. I am merely opening up the finale program without opening a specific document and VE server is immediately launched for some reason. I also can't cancel , quit , or force quit VE during the Finale startup so that Finale can continue loading . This also doesn't seem to be normal behavior correct? I would assume I should be able to cancel VE during startup and Finale would continue loading? Craig

That's strange. Can you try out one thing, please. Open Finale with the Vienna Key attached. Then close Finale. Remove the Vienna Key and start Finale again. Please watch exactly what Finale is doing, if there are any messages and when exactly the eLicenser error message occurs.

Please also let me know, which build numbers of VE, VE Pro and VI you are using.

Finale opens up fine with key inserted and i open a blank lead sheet, however VE service v4.1.7043 64b also opens . With out the key Finale window opens with Initialzing midi , no other finale windows open, VE server opens up wiith E Licennser control error ApplicationVienna instrument (M6) has caused the following error: no eLicenser connected. Please connect a valid eLicenser and restart application options : click ok to abort. When I click abort a new window open with the same message and continues to repeat when I try to cancel or abort. After 4 or 5 tries I sometime can finally get VE to quit, however at that point Finale just hangs with the same window and I have to force quit Finale. I just reinstalled the eLicenser control to make sure I had the latest OSX version same problem VE server immediately launches when Finale starts up even though I have GM instruments set for midi playback in Finale, So far my only work around to get Finale to open without the key inserted is to remove the Vienna VST and AU plugins from the Library/audio/plugins folder. Also Am I missing something when posting here, I have several breaks and new paragraphs when composing this message but when I preview its all one long paragraph. Craig

Thanks for the detailed report. We already had a few users with this problem some time ago, but as far as I know this problem has long been solved. Did you update to the latest Finale 2010 version?

However, I will point it to our developers. They will look if there can be something done from our side.

In order to not have one paragraph without a break in Safari, enable the enhanced editor in your profile/community settings.

In the mean time I guess I'll have to remove the VE plugins from my folder  when I'm not using them.

I also took my MBPro to work at beklee and they reinstalled Finale to see if that would help but made no difference . 

They also noticed  coremidiframework in OS 106.4 immediately opens and hangs while looking for the license and that is causing some of the problems.
