  • Assign Distinct MIDI channels per Articulation?

Assign Distinct MIDI channels per Articulation? please point me to the correct tutorial for this, or explain how this can be set up in SONAR 8.5. Example: In Kontact Each Instrument can have a distinct MIDI channel, Sustain = 1, Portamento = 2, etc. cheers!

  • Why not using only one channel in kontakt with instrument bank and multi-script.

-In kontakt, create a new instrument bank and put it in different articulations:

-press the multi-script button below the NI logo and View button then,

-open the script preset menu and choose preset/factory/transform/notes to prog changes

-set the note range you want to use for Keyswitches. It will tranform those notes in program changes messages on every bank on every midi channels. It will be similar to keyswitches in Vienna Instrument. Personnally I hate to have multiples tracks for one instrument just like it whas 10 years ago with my 32Mo Emu sampler.

    Voilà

  • ...Vienna Instrument Pro can be loaded in Kontakt4?

  • @sadicus:

Is your question about Vienna Ensemble or Vienna Instruments Pro?

  • Sorry,

I misunderstand, This whas the explanation for having keyswitchwes in Kontakt just like Vi.

But you can use keyswitch in VI instead of different midi channel.

Vienna Instruments cant have multiples midi channels.

  • Appologies! My question is about: Vienna Instruments Pro I'm trying to follow these directions. " There are two ways to do what you ask using the workflow I describe, and the method used will be based on how the "layered" articulations are being handled. For example, if you want to always use the supporting or "layered" articulation in conjunction with another, then all you do is assign it the same MIDI channel. IOW, artic 1 and artic 2 will be triggered simultaneously every time a MIDI note that was assigned that MIDI channel is played. As an example, you could use this technique on 'Staccato Trumpets' and 'Cresc. Trumpets', assigning both to MIDI channel 3, to get a sforzando effect before the crescendo comes in. If you have room in your sampler, you could even load the Staccato articulation twice, on separate MIDI channels of course, so that one is being triggered with the crescendo notes and the other when you need regular staccato (no crescendo). The other method is used when you don't want to have the same MIDI channel for both articulations, and/or when you have two parts using different articulations simultaneously on the same instrument. In this case, I use track layers, each with its own MIDI channel(s). For example, you have a Horn playing a melodic line while the other Horns are playing a staccato part in the background. With the use of track layers you can easily separate the two distinct parts in conjunction with the Mute button ("Q") as well as the option to hide muted clips in PRV. This way you only see the part you want to work with at a time without having a mess of notes, which would make editing their MIDI channel a nightmare. "

  • @FredB Good advice! tghanks for that info I'll try it out. ...........How are you formatting the text in this forum? mine keeps running together!

Vienna Instrument is not a multi-channel instrument like Kontakt. So it seems impossible to do this. If you load Vienna instruments in Vienna Ensemble you can get what you want.

But you don't have to mess with midi channels in VI Pro.Vienna Instruments Pro is the most powerfull tool for articulations, and you can have layered articulations just as you wish (i think). Just click on the Advanced View tab and you'll see 8 different slot where you can load your patches and even mix it, tweak the attack or change others settings independently.

  • That was for the first way you describe,

    now for the second,

If you want let say a legato and a staccato line at the same time you will have to load two instance of VI Pro.

  • This will give me a good starting point, thanks for the advice!
