  • MIR SE and Sibelius 6.2

     Hi,

I've been trying to set up MIR SE with Sibelius 6.2 with no success,

I am running both side by side on same Intel Quad Core i7 PC, 12 GB RAM, ASIO4all driver.

I downloaded LoopBe 1, and set all in MIR and Sibelius: assigned the same LoopBe 1 midi in and same midi channels, in both MIR and Sib.

Assigned VE SE+ soundset on LoopBe1 active device, manual sound sets, and, for instance, flute 1+ all in Sib. (even imported VSL house style to trigger all articulations as I usually work with Logic or VE Pro)

Then in MIR I did the same with corresponding MIDI channel (1) I loaded the 'Flute' preset. (LoopBe1 ticked in MIR!)

When I play MIR's instrument keyboard I listen to sound, but when I wrote on Sib's flute staff (the one with all assigned-even checked Sib's mixer), and hit play, no output to MIR.

I notice that LoopBe 1 has no 'device control'. I only have a 'mute' tick. I try to 'untick' it but then I get an error midi feedback message 'can't have in and out on same application'.

So, tick or no tick, I can't get sibelius to play a single instrument through MIR SE.  What am I doing wrong? Really want to try MIR SE!

I would really appreciate any help!

    Best, thanks,

    Nuno

  • Hello Nuno!

Please make sure, that in Sibelius the LoopBe1 In MIDI Port is deactivated. That can be done in the File/Preferences/Input Devices menu. Otherwise you will get a MIDI feedback.
For the Special Edition PLUS please load the matrices in MIR, that were included in the SE PLUS (like 02S Flute 1+).

Please also notice that if you run Sibelius and MIR on the same machine, you will either need an ASIO driver, that is multiclient capable, or start MIR before Sibelius (in order to hear the MIR output).

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi!

There you go, all is working fine! Thanks for the help.

Just wondering if you could please confirm the following:
1- I assume that routing tracks from my Logic on a Mac to my i7 PC is similar, except must use ipMidi (setup 1 on MIR's manual)?
2- My i7 PC audio card has S/PDIF connector but my MacBook Pro has not. However my  M-Audio Fast Track PRO Midi/audio interface has S/PDIF. Will it work if I connect 'MIR' on i7 PC to Fast Track Pro via S/PDIF which in turn is connected to my Macbook Pro via USB? Can I therefore route audio to Logic, so as to record (MIR as sub-mix) or for imput monitoring?
    I believe final questions.
As usual with your products...MIR is excelent! Congratulations!
    Best, thanks,
    Nuno

  • Thanks for your friendly words, Nuno. Good to hear that your setup is working now! :-)

May I jump instead of Andi with answers to your remaining questions:

    1. Exactly. You will have to use any kind of MIDI-connection, either via network or "old-school" MIDI cables (and MIDI interfaces). Timing-wise, I would prefer the LAN-based version.

    2.  Yes, your assumptions are right, this is exactly the way it would work. Just make sure that you have chosen the proper master/slave-settings of the digital clock (... there always has to be one and only one clock master in a digital audio system).

    All the best,
