  • Can you use VE Pro with the Special Edition?

    Hi,
I've got the SE, SE Extended, SE Plus and the Vienna Suite. I'm a student composer and am starting to write pieces for larger groups of instruments that occasionally cause my Macbook Pro to "choke"! It would be great to network some of my other computers together to share the workload. Is it possible to use the VE Pro with the SE without having to purchase any additional licenses for the SE library? I'd like to spread the instruments accross 2 - 3 additional computers. I’m not quite sure how the licensing of libraries works with the VE Pro.

    Thanks!

    Michael

  • Hello Michael,

Unfortunately it´s not possible to split one VI Collections and use it on different computers. 1 license will always stay 1 license and can only be present on 1 ViennaKey.

  • Hi Paul,

I was afraid of that. I don't know all of the ins and outs of how the eLicenser works, but would it be possible to have a parent child relationship with your SE license and the VE Pro. What I mean is that your main computer would have your original SE license and then the other two computers would have a ‘child' license for the SE that would only work if they were on the same network as the original SE license and VE Pro was running and licensed on all three computers?

If you could implement this I'd buy the VE Pro immediately! With the addition of the SE+ the library has really grown and is great for students. I'd love to be able to run the MIR SE but the price of the hardware to run it is just too prohibitive now.

Also, I think that if you were able to implement this, it would make transitioning from the SE to the cube a lot easier.

Thanks for all of your great products!

    Michael

  • Hello Michael,

That will not be possible, sorry to say.

The Special Edition is designed to work on 1 computer, and it can be fully loaded in a little more than 4 GB of RAM, which is no problem with a modern computer.

    Best,

    Paul
