  • Annoying harmonic on Appassionnata Violas

    Hello,

I'm working on a piece and I noticed that on pretty much every patch from the Violas section, there's a kind of harmonic (I'm hearing a fifth) that sounds almost like a voice-pad or something. This happens on notes D2 and D#2, and it's particularly audible on sustain and legato pacthes (also Detaché).

I'm guessing this must be normal resonance of some string(s) but, when going from F2 to D#2 on the piece I'm working, it stands out and now I can only hear that... I don't know what the solution, if there's one at all (using EQ just during that note seems a bit pushy).

    Any advice ?

    Thanks!

  •  Is there any way you could post an example. I hear nothing amiss here. Could it be a room node at your studio?

In any case, EQ is the way to go.that's what it's for. [;)]

  • Thanks for replying!

    Ok, here's a simple alternation between D#2 and F2.http://www.ninomojo.com/violas_%20DS2-F2.mp3

On each D#2 you can hear a kind of "aaaaaaah" (on this tone: http://www.ninomojo.com/violas_harmonic.mp3 )

    I'm using headphones exclusively. :)
Also, you would think in the middle of a piece it wouldn't stand out, but it does, I'm scoring a very calm moment with very soft legato chords, and I hear this very clearly.

  • Hi, I listened and yes there is the A#4, but that's just the 2nd overtone of the fundamental D#3. Doesn't sound un-natural to me !
