    Hi everybody,


    As my iMac starts to show its limits with my setting,  I'll think soon use Vienna Ensemble (VE) with two computers (iMac for VE/VIP and MacBook Pro for Logic). I am aware that EV Pro includes many attractive options compared to VE (I have not found a table comparing the two versions). But I would like to know what are the difference between VE and VE Pro when working with two computers networked (Master-slave mode). Is the network operation the same (similar softwares on both side and nothing else than a Gigabit Ethernet link; just one ViennaKey on Slave side)? Manuals are not clear on that subject.

    [VSL's products are very good,  but manuals are sometimes really "minimalists". ... Some pictures would be so helpful to see things clearly. VE Pro's manual is much better in this case]

    VE doesn't support networking at all. It can only be used on one system.

    We can read in VE's manual extract :


    Using Slave machines:

    Each Vienna Ensemble Slave machine needs to have a ViennaKey containing the licenses for the given Vienna Instruments Collections connected. Don’t forget that you will also need the content of your Vienna Instruments Collections available and assigned in your Directory Manager (simply drag and drop the sample content folders into the Directory Manager!) (p.4)


    Vienna Ensemble Service / Preferences

    The Vienna Ensemble Service is a separate application that runs in the background on your Vienna Ensemble Slave Computer or alongside your sequencer. (p.6)

    Am I wrong to believe that there is some sort of networking between Master and Slave Computer and that VE Service is something similar (but less powerfull) that VE Pro server? Or is it that all connexions between computers are midi and audio cables?

    Looks like the information in the manual is a bit ambiguous. The VE Service is similar to the VE Pro Server, but connection to it is automatic and only locally.
