Hi, I can't get VE to start while using Sibelius 5.2. I seems to work on its own but would not start with Sibelius (I had them working together so I could hear my arrangements with Vienna special edition's sounds) Thank you.

Sibelius 5.2 and the new Vienna Ensemble

If I'm understanding you correctly you're trying to run the VE Pro standalone application next to Sibelius, which is not how VE Pro should be used. You should use the VE Pro Server application instead. If you then add the VE Pro Server Interface plugin to Sibelius' instruments, you'll be able to connect to the server. This is also explained in the manual.

Hi Ziv!
I recommend reading the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual. You can get it here:
http://vsl.co.at/en/68/141/460/576/655.htmHere is in short, what you have to do:
1. Start VE Pro Server
2. Start Sibelius
3. Go to the Playback Devices menu and create a new Playback Configuration
4. Activate VE Pro
5. Load the sound set you need and make channel and program settings on the Manual Sound Set page
6. Load instruments in VE Pro and make channel settings
7. Save your Playback configuration everytime you make settings or changes in VE ProI hope this was helpful.
Best,
Andi

Hi snattack!
Are you sure, that you have routed Sibelius to the right plugin folder? If you are not sure where you have installed the Vienna Ensemble plugin, please do a search for the file "Vienna Ensemble.dll". The folder where this file is located, is the folder that you should set up in Sibelius as your VST Plugin folder.
Best regards,
Andi

Bump.
This problem suddenly showed up again without doing ANYTHING. It worked flawlessly and suddenly it doesn't.
1. YES I have the right plugin folder.
2. YES I have tried reinstalling both Sibelius and VSL.
3. YES I have tried changing plugin folder
4. YES I have tried installing with all the "default" folders that the installers suggest, and pointing the installation of the VST-plugin to the default Sibelius folder.
5. I've tried with only the x64-plugin inside the plugin folder, only the x32-plugin, and both. Neither works.
6. YES, I've pressed "rescan" in the Sibelius Playback Configuration-dialoge.
Software: latest Vienna Ensemble (not Pro) and Vienna Instruments (not Pro). Also tried an older version (which was first affected by this fault and therefore was the reason for upgrading to the newest version).
OS: Win7 x64, 8gb RAM, Intel Core i5
This hast just costed me several hours of "unable to do"-work in a very tight schedule, so PLEASE respond to this as soon as possible.@andi said:

Hi snattack!
That's odd. Did you change anything on your system recently? Sorry to ask, but are you sure that you have routed Sibelius to the folder, where the file "Vienna Ensemble.dll" is located? That needs to be done in the Sibelius/Playback/Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options menu. Could it be, that you unchecked "Use virtual instruments and effects" by accident in the same menu?

No recent changes, yes I am absolutely sure that it's routed to the correct folder. Nope, I didn't uncheck that one since other modules are visible, it's only Vienna that refuses to load.
After installing the new version, it worked ONCE, but then it suddently complained that I missed the proper license i eLicenser. I updated the eLicence-software, and then Vienna was gone again.
I have the exact same configuration on a Laptop with same OS (except it's Windows 7 Home x64), and it works without problems.

Yes, that is correct, and yes, it works in Cubase 5 (x64) from the same folder. As said before, this has happened one time before, when I first installed the old version (released August if I remember correctly), and suddenly it started working, did so for a while, and then yesterday it suddenly didn't. It's been a while since I started it on this computer, but I haven't made any changes since last time. It seems as Sibelius doesn't read in the plugin during the startup splash screen either, before VE started up automaticaly with Sibelius or at least the "loading plugin: Vienna Ensemble.dll" hold while loading, but now it's nothing. Vienna Instruments doesn't show up either. I've also tried starting Vienna Ensemble Service manually before starting Sibelius without result.

I'm running Sibelius 6 (PC) with VE4 all OK, but there are a number of oddities. Although VE shows up as 64-bit version, Sibelius will only load the 32-bit version, and somehow it ends up running the 64-bit version, so you seem to have to have both 32-bit and 64-bit versions in the relevant VST folder. I cannot get Sibelius to work with VE Pro, it does show up in the Available devices, but you can tell that the VE server never starts up. so it just doesn't work.
So put Vienna Ensemble.dll and Vienna Ensemble x64.dll in the Sibelius VST folder, you'll probably need to run Sibelius, go to the audio engine page, rescan the VST folder, and then restart Sibelius,
If that doesn't do it, then PANIC..........

Hello Andy!
If you start the VE Service (or VE Pro Server) before Sibelius, the plugin will always connect to the version, you opened. Sibelius is a 32-bit application and can only load 32-bit plugins. Nevertheless this 32-bit plugin will connect to the 64-bit Service, if it is already running. This way you can use all the available RAM on a 64-bit system, even though Sibelius is only a 32-bit software.
Vienna Ensemble x64.dll can't be read by Sibelius.I hope this clarifies some questions.
Best regards,
Andi
