  • No Right or Control Click in VIPro 7043 in Logic Pro 9

Hi   The right or control click doesn't work in the VIPro 7043 while opened (Logic Pro 9.1.1, MacOS 10.6.3). It works in the stand alone version. That means Copy/Paste, Learn Function etc is not working in my DAW and for that reason no fun to use. Could you please fix that? Vasi.

  • Hi Vasi,

Yes, we are aware that Control-Click does not work when VI Pro is inserted in Logic Pro - this will be fixed.

Right-Click works without problems here though!

    Best, Marnix

  • And a data point for engineering to remember:

In MacOS, right-click and control-click do not have to be the same! You can have a function for "right click' and a different function (contextual menu) for control-click.

ProTools really messed some of us up and required workflow changes when they introduced this in vers 8, and many people had to adjust their tablets (pens) or trackballs or mice.

I am not suggesting that VSL use this trick, I am saying that in macOS, right click and control click are separate functions (but usually behave the same), and the programmers should be aware of this.

  • Hi Marnix Thanks for your answer, so patience is the word. Tell me, is there another way to assign keyswitches or programs to keys or controllers? Best, Vasi.

And in Windows as well, but usually behave differently.

Are you saying that right click doesn't work either?

  • Hi,

you can always assign all real-time controllers in the Controller Map window in the Advanced View.

I watched the tutorials for VIPro and one of them includes different scales assigned to different keys. That's exactly the problem. When it try that in Logic, in the left VIPro panel i can do nothing with any click (ctr or right) and also type in something manually does not work. That's why i asked for a workaround. In the standalone everything is working as expected. By control click i can assign ksw or prg easily on the left side to any key or controller. Also copy and paste is working with a nice pop up (copy matrix or paste matrix etc). In Logic using exactly the same clicks is not working (wheter ctr or right). Ok, i can copy a matrix by dragging and holding down "alt" on the computer. Thanks to all... i appreciate your support. Vasi. BTW from what i saw in Pro Tools there was exactly the same problem, which with 7043 got fixed.

  • In the mac world, right-click didn't exist for many years, but control-click for contextual menus did.

Then, Apple introduced mice and trackpads that support right-click, but for the most part, all developers adhered to control-click = right-click = contextual menus.

(BTW, on an apple laptop, to right-click on the trackpad requires a carpal-tunnel inducing finger technique of 2-fingers then click -- if you do this continuously, you will need surgery at some point).

So for mac users, we are very much used to interchanging control-click with right-click, as it's been the same for 99% of applications. ProTools was the first app in my arsenal (including Adobe CS5 and a zillion others) that used different functions (sometimes) for right-click vs. control-click. FWIW.

  • Jeremy, I understand all of what you say, but in a true cross platform application I would have thought that it was better to have the same commands on both platforms. I certainly would much prefer interchangeability, so that if I change my studio machine to a Mac, I don't have to change my workflow.

The only solution I can see is to remove all Ctrl-click features for Mac users, and assign those to menus instead for these features, but I don't think that this would make those people using a multi button mouse too happy.

I am in agreement here... but my point is that mac users are expecting control-click to behave like right-click, unless documented.

Remember, on PC, control is the primary modifier, and on mac, COMMAND is. Mac actually has an extra modifier than stock windows keyboards. So when mac speaks of control as a modifier key, it not the same as on PC. This is just part of the mac way of doing things.

Just trying to share how mac is slightly different than Win.

  • The Ctrl-click not behaving as right click in VI Pro's Cocoa AU view has been fixed for the next update. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Great. That's the fix i am waiting for. There's a temporary workaround if you do change the primary mouse button in the mouse sys prefs. But not advisable.

I am looking forward for the update. Thanks again. Vasi.
