  • Pan in Finale

    Hello Andi,

Now that I can hear your glorious instruments in Finale, I'd like to assign pan values to them, but to no avail.

By the way, Garritan voices do pan fine, so I'm wondering what I'm not doing right with the Vienna Ensemble?

That killer harpsichord has to be positioned on the left of the stage! :-)

    Thanks, Alexis

  • Hello again, Andi,

What is it they say about not seeing the forest for the trees?

I found the pan controls on the Vienna Ensemble panel, and they work fine.

My question is this: when I create new instrument settings for a piece in Vienna Ensemble, when I close that piece I'm prompted to save the Ensemble settings. Should I save them in the same folder as my song? Name them the same as the song? Call them anything?

    What does this file do?

I noticed that, even if I removed it from the song folder, the song still opens with my instrument and pan assignments.

So I'm at a loss to understand why I should save the Vienna Ensemble selections at all?

    Thanks, Alexis

  • Hi Alex!

The power panner in Vienna Ensemble is two-dimensional (position and width) and therefore doesn't read the one-dimensional MIDI-Pan values. As you found out by yourself it is best to set the panorama directly in Vienna Ensemble.

If you work with the plugin version of Vienna Ensemble there's no need to save your Vienna Ensemble settings, as these settings are saved with the project of the host software. You can save it nevertheless for backup reasons or if you want to use these settings for other projects as well.

    Best regards,
    Andi
