  • 7030 7043, matrix saves FAIL [solved]

in every case, 32 and 64 bit servers. this is a completely new issue for me. also preset saves fail.

  • This is with VI Pro in VE Pro.

edit: forget the guesswork. NG: Don't Work. No good at all.

Noto Bene: this was_never_a_problem until build 7030.

  • Hello Gianna,

just checked under OS X 10.6.4 and Win 7, no troubles saving matrices or presets....

Please include your system specs with reports like this, so that it´s easier for us to reproduce what you are experiencing.

If you are on OSX: Did you try to repair disk permissions yet?

    Best,

    Paul

  • OSX.6.4. MacPro [Edit, NB: 2x 2.93ghz quad], 24GB.

I repaired permissions immediately after installing the updates. I just did it again. No change in the behavior.

  • with everything else in my system exactly the same as when successful matrix saves on 9-22, after the update all the saves since 9-24 have failed.

  • Hi Gianna,

Please also check, wether your access privileges to the VSL Custom Data folder (/Users/Shared/) are still set to read and write and that it is properly assigned in Directory Manager!

When in doubt, please simply reassign the path to the Custom Data folder in Directory Manager.

Are there any error messages involved or what exactly happens when "saving fails"?

    Best, Marnix

  • there are no permissions problems. I, the system, 'everyone' can read and write in the folder VSL Custom Data, which is where the installer put it, in the users/shared directory. I have used directory manager and ensured it's in there; beyond that I do not know what 'simply reassign the path' entails.

    the error messages:

    "error saving preset/name of preset"

    "error saving matrix/name of matrix"

  • Hi Gianna,

We are actually trying to help you and to rule out possible culprits. This is not known behaviour of the software, as you can imagine, otherwise we would not have released it.

So something must have changed or been altered in your system during the installation of the updates...

Can you please roll back to builds 6853 for both VI Pro and VE Pro and check wether saving still works with these versions?

    Thanks, Marnix

  • there is exactly one change, actually. when I first installed VI Pro, it looks to the default location 'users/shared' for VSL Custom Data. Some time ago I had moved that to 'users/my name'. So when converting vi frames to VI Pro, I found that the two versions were looking for two different directories. As I don't really have any future use planned for the old version of VI, I got rid of the latter folder and copied the data to the folder the installer established. Otherwise, between the saves I successfully made on 9-22 and the failed saves on 9-25, there is no new software, no deleted software, the only new player in the equation was build 7030.

edit: I remember posting re: this folder situation. I saw someone say that this 'strictly from default' behavior of VI Pro would be addressed in an update. This comment was before 7030 and I was using 6853...

I will roll back and report.

  • Ok. With build 6853, this feature works, just as it worked before. I'm going to update to 7043 over/without uninstaliing that.

  • "error saving matrix"

also, it doesn't show the matrices I have saved. In the default folder, In a VSL Custom Data folder I copied to users/mine. The app doesn't see these folders I guess. Whether there is one VSL Custom Data folder in either location, or both.

Rollback 2: build 6853 does not have these problems, same folder structure(s). One works, the other does not.

EDIT: I see this in the changelog for 7030: "All Directory Manager settings are now per-user". I recall a reply from VSL, about access to other than the default folder in VI Pro; VI Pro now going strictly with the default, a different behavior from regular old VI which always worked with a folder I had chosen.

  • Again, this is in VE Pro.

The fixes in the changelong mostly apply to issues I am not having, so this isn't any show stopper. But something got broke for me with 7030.

  • Hi Gianna,

Please close all VSL applications and launch Directory Manager from /Applications/Vienna Instruments Pro/

Click on "Custom Folder", then on "Browse".

Now please change the path to the Custom Folder to any other folder on your system, f.i. Applications, and close Directory Manager.

Relaunch Directory Manager, change the Custom Folder back to /Users/Shared/VSL Custom Data and quit Directory Manager.

Can you save Presets or Matrices in Vienna Instruments Pro now?

    Best, Marnix

  • solved - thank you
