I've installed build 7043 of VI Pro and VI Ensemble on my Win XP 32 bit PC. Overall, it's working well but I've still had a few audio pops and crackles. I've noted two interesting things about VI Pro CPU usage.
1) Windows Task Manager indicates a much higher CPU utilization for VI Pro than the application lists itself in its status bar.
2) VI Pro CPU usage is much lower when the program is minimized (User Interface hidden)
When I run VI Pro standalone and load a single patch, the program indicates a CPU usage of 0.7% to 3.0%. Windows Task Manager, however, reports VI Pro CPU usage varying between 3% to 31% as I play single note lines on the keyboard. If I minimize VI Pro to the Windows Task Bar, hiding the user interface, Task Manager indicates VI Pro CPU usage varying between 2% to 5% as I play. That's a significant drop in the peak readings from 31% with the User Interface open to 5% when the UI is hidden.
The behavior in Vienna Ensemble is similar. After instantiating a VI Pro channel in Vienna Ensemble, the CPU usage indicated by Task Manager is much higher than the CPU meter in Vienna Ensemble. If I switch to the mixer view so that the VI Pro channel window is hidden, Task Manager reports a much lower CPU usage for Vienna Ensemble.
Can anyone else confirm this behavior?
Thanks,
Paul
