  • Sibelius 5.2 and Vienna Ensemble

Hi, It's been a while since I've integrated these two softwares but since, I've purchased a new PC and thus I lost all of my configurations. At the moment In Sibelius - playback devices On the left box I can only see my audio interface (MOTU 8PRE) and that all, I can not see the VE. I have the latest VE installed. I have put the VE sound sets in the Sibelius' sounds folder. and I have the VE presets saved from the past computer. In the C:\Documents and Settings\Ziv Shalev\Application Data\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Playback Configurations I have lost all of the XML files that where there. I think I can get them from the person who bought my previous computer if it's so crucial for the process. Thank you! Ziv.

  • Hello Ziv!

On Windows machines Sibelius has to be told, where the VST-Plugins (like Vienna Ensemble) are located. That can be done in the Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options menu. If you don't remember, where you have installed it, you can do a windows search for the file "Vienna Ensemble.dll".

If you want to load your old scores with the playback configurations you made, you will have to get those xml files you mentioned and the corresponding data folders and put them in the Sibelius 5/Playback Configurations folder.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Got it! Thanks Andi!

  • Hi Andi, I have been working withought a problem for the past month with Sibelius and Vienna Ensemble for the past month. Today as I tried to start the programs I encountered this error: DCOM connection to program 'Synsopos.exe' failed. Error:The server threw an exception. I went online and downloadedthe the latest VI and VE softwares but it didn't help. No Sibelius is up but VE won't start with it and I can't hear sounds. Appreciate the help, Ziv.

  • Ok, so I figured that the problem must be the elicenser since it wound't start. I downloaded the latest LCC software which seems to work well. VE will start on its own but now, when I start Sibelius it doesn't generate VE anymore..

  • Hi Ziv!

I'm not sure what you mean with "Sibelius doesn't generate VE anymore". If it doesn't show up in the list of available devices, just take a look at my previous answer in this thread.
If this isn't the problem, can you please describe in detail what happens and what you've been trying to do?

    Best,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi, I think I did'nt explain correctly the problem.. I'll try again :) I'm working with Sibelius 5.2 and using VE so I could hear the sounds of my Vienna Special edition. When I start Sibelius, VE will start as well. A few days ago, I couldn't get VE to start. Just sibelius without sounds. I went on the VSL web site and noticed that there's a new VE edition. I installed it and still nothing. I would start sibelius and VE would not start. I made sure that the VE sound set is in Sibelius' sounds folder and that the audio engine is set for the VE folder where the Vienna Ensemble.dll is located.

  • Hi Ziv!

Sorry, but still I don't understand the problem. VE doesn't have to start automatically with Sibelius. If a Playback Configuration is loaded automatically with starting Sibelius depends on your settings in the Preferences/Playback menu. Does Vienna Ensemble appear in the list of available devices?

  • Yes it does appear. I'm probably not familiar with the right terminology for this configuration. I just want it to work as it worked before. I followd exactly the steps showing in the tutorial video for working with sibelius and it worked great till a few days ago. I don't know, maybe it has to do with the VE 4.1?

  • oh, and i forgot to add that since that the syncrosoft licenser gave me problems (VE won't even start on its own) I downloaded the elicenser online which seems to work fine. (maybe it's an important thing you need to know)

  • This way we won't get any further. Please describe your problems and what you've been trying to do. Have you been able to activate VE? Was it possible to load matrices?

  • Dear Andi, I couldn't activate VE 4.1 in coordination with Sibelius 5.2. Fortunatelly I found the old VE installation, i installed it and Everything works well now. I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough. The new VE would not work with Sibelius on my computer so I removed it and reinstalled the old VE. Thank you for your help.

  • Hi Ziv!

I'm sorry, that we couldn't work this out. I have tried VE 4.1 with Sibelius 5.2.5 myself succesfully. Anyway, I'm glad that it works for you with VE 2.

    Best,
    Andi

  • It's possible that Sibelius "blacklisted" the VE plugin because it failed the plugin scan. I'm sure there is some way to rescan the VE plugin to make it available again. Also make sure that all your VSL software is updated to the latest version, as older versions that use the vsldaemon may cause conflicts with the new and improved copy protection.
