  • Changing Playback Configuation

One thing has been puzzling me. Sibelius always loads the playback configuration I used last time. After loading the whole configuration, which takes a long time, Sibelius asks if I want to change to the playback configuration I use in the current piece. When I answer yes, the loading starts all over again. Furthermore, either Vienna Ensemble or Sibelius often crashes before the second loading is clear. Is there some way to load the right playback configuration in the first place? Why the crash? Is it a RAM problem? What is a reasonable amount of RAM with Vienna? The Activity monitor on System Memory shows Free: 17 MB, Wired: 2,78 GB, Active 1,31 GB, Inactive 1,89 GB. This is my configuration. OSX 10.6.4 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 6 GB RAM I have the latest versions of Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble Sibelius 6.2.0 Configuration with about 20 instruments from Vienna Special Edition Plus Regards Pekay

  • Hello Pekay You can change the default playback configuration (and choose whether to load any playback or not when starting Sibelius)in:Sibelius/File/Preferences/playback Regards, paul

  • Hello Pekay!

Please notice that Vienna Ensemble for Mac is a 32-bit application and you can't load more than about 3 GB with it. If you try to load more, VE will crash.
Vienna Ensemble Pro is a 64-bit application. You can load as much RAM with it as you have.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Yes, but I can load more RAM by using several instances of Vienna Ensemble, right? I usually have two or three instances. Pekay

  • Thanks Paul, very valuable! Pekay

  • Sorry, but even when you open more instances of Vienna Ensemble, it is still one application and you can't load more than 3 GB.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Maybe I should upgrade to Vienna Ensemble Pro. It says that I have already received two demo licenses. That's probably true but I have never activated them. What do I have to do try Vienna Ensemble Pro now? Best, Pekay

  • Hello Pekay!

If you haven't activated your VE Pro Demo licenses yet, you could do that now. Just use one of the codes you have been sent with the eLicenser control center.

    Andi

  • I'm sorry but I don't know how you mean. It's quite long ago I downloaded Vienna Ensemble Pro and I don't remember how I got the code. I don't have anything on the eLicenser. Was it something about that I have a Steinberg key and not one from Vienna? Can you help me here. Pekay

  • Hello Pekay!

I have just sent you an email with your demo license codes. This has nothing to do with having a Steinberg or a Vienna key.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Hi Pekay and Andi,

I was redirected to this one. But I found a cost free solution!

Just force quit VE and Sibelius and restart your computer a number of times. Keep trust. It has probably something to do with the harddrive and the way all the stuff is written on it otherwise I can't find another reason why this worked.

Andi, very keen marketing strategy ;-) but I prefer the lofi (and thus no costs) solution the next time!

    Cheers!

p.s. one other inconvenient and not so charming thing is that one need to do the same procedure (above) to switch from one playback device to another in Sibelius. I like to add this one the list too for other might have something on this info too...
