  • Alternation Select ?

    Dears all,

    a simple question :

it's possible in ViPro to select  the alternation in order to play the wanted one ?

On the paper : i have Basson Legato and i've ha notice of 2(??) alternation and just want to get the chance to select wich one for the first note.

( I found one of the alternation more right (IMO) for the first note attack )

    Is it possible ?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Yes you can do this. If you want to be able to choose which sample to use on a case by case basis it is possible, but it takes a bit more setting up.

  • Great and thanks.

    Can you elaborate more ?

    Appreciated.

    Hi Anton,

the 2 alterations for the perf-leg bassoon patch are just 2 variations of repetition notes (if you perform the same key twice or more), and no alterations of interval samples. Alterations of interval samples are available for perf-trill patches.

  • Hi Herb, yes, but i've a notice of 2 different alternation on the note attack (first note) i just want to know if i can choose wich one to use as a first note. The behaviour seems to be random at the moment.

To be more accurate : i listen ( expecially on Bassoon 1 ) one of the attack alternations is more natural for the first note of the phrases.

    Thanks.

    PS

I am not referring to the intervals but just at the single notes.

  •  Generally there is no randomness in any patches, which would make it impossible to use the optimise functionality.

You can define the treshold of repetitions with the repetition treshhold value, here you can set how long a pause could be, before resetting to the first available variation.

Further you can copy any patch to another cell, and there you can switch off any repetition parts you like. Switching between two or more cells with different repetition settings enables you to force any repetition you want.

And further you can adjust attacks just of repetition or starting notes using the start offset mode without altering any legato samples.

  • This goes slightly off topic:

    Hi Herb,

Are you saying that optimize currently checks which alternations have been used and discards the rest? That's very effective, but couldn't the optimize function be adjusted such that when a note is being triggered at a certain velocity, that velocity layer is preserved with all its alternation samples. I would gladly trade the minor loss in optimization (I hardly ever use it anyway) for the benefit of having randomization of the alternation samples as it can be done in Kontakt. I'm no programmer of course so forgive me if I don't consider code intricacies or other considerations.

Yes. There is a threshold for each repetition and function - and after this time, the patch starts with the first note again. Every sample is different, and this way you will ALWAYS hear exactly what you want (and decided) to hear.

  • Paul,

I saw that setting and it's brilliant. What I am arguing for is to add an option for randomization that is not prohibited by the optimization function. Current alternates work great for lines and shorter repetition patterns. With longer patterns the sound pattern of the repetitions starts to emerge (even with the perf rep patches) so that the pattern of the repetition starts to sound mechanical.  I'd trade having control of exactly how the samples are triggered, so that they sound the same every time I play the song, for a randomization option that I can use for such long repetitive patterns. The same would apply to the new humanize function.

It's just an idea to make the awesomeness even awesomer imo.
