  • Sibelius and Dynamics

Hello there! This is my very first post on this board. I got the VSL Special Edition yesterday and I am very happy with it! But setting it up with Sibelius is far too much for me and I gave up. Now I'm planning to stick with Sibelius with the compositions and export the midi into Cubase where I can use my new VSL instruments best. Since I found out, that you can use a controller for a velocity face, it would be really handy if I could export the Sibelius dynamics, crescendos and decrescendos into a special controller like CC2 (Breath). But I don't know if it is possible and couldn't find a option for that yat. I hope someone can help me! Cheers Intero

  • Hello Intero!

We have a tutorial video for Sibelius & Vienna Ensemble here:
    http://vsl.co.at/en/211/1343/1348/1594/1245.vsl

All details on how to set up Sibelius for the use with our products can be found in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual, which can be downloaded here:
    http://vsl.co.at/en/68/141/460/576/655.htm

If you export a MIDI-file based on a Playback Configuration which includes the Special Edition sound set, dynamic values will be exported as Velocity and CC11 values. With Cubase you can convert these values to CC2 data, if you want to.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Intero, You have to work a little to make Vienna work with Sibelius. But as I see it, it is worth while. Sibelius is a fantastic tool for composing music. It's nice to hear the result immediately in good Vienna quality, which is fully possible. It sounds very good when everything is set right according to the manual that Andi refers to. Then, of course, you may want to enhance the sound even more and that is best done by exporting from Sibelius to a DAW. Best, Pekay.
