  • NI Kontakt became perfect !!!

    [[:|]] [:D] [[;)]]
    Hi folks,
many greetings to Herb, Paul, (your vision let a dream became reality), and of course to all the VSL-owners in the world.
Today I visited the NI-page - YES - NI's Kontakt is now enabled to import GIG-files perfectly. The new Update (1.2) includes HD-Streaming and the use of "Key Dimensions" - they call it "Key-Activator".
After many probs with Gigastudio I finally have found MY best solution: Kontakt.
I love the interface - I love the performance - well, for me, there's truely no reason for a longer Giga-Existence.

P.S. To Herb and Paul: Are you planning to present the VSL on the "Musikmesse" in Frankfurt/Main this spring ???
I'm living next to Frankfurt - would be very nice to meet you there.

  • Indeed. I just checked NI site and it seems that they finally achieved the direct-from-disk streaming stuff.

They also added release triggers and key and controller activators and one thing they called "cycle round robin" and "cycle random" which seems similar to SOME of the functionality of your performance tools. It seems to cycle through samples when a key is repeatedly pressed to avoid that nasty repetition effect.

As of this update, the keyswitching does NOT work properly with multilayered Giga import which makes it useless for using the VSL in giga format, though keyswitching apparently works perfectly in kontakt native format

Also, it seems the DFD feature is still quite CPU intensive for some users, though nothing worst than what has been happenning to many Giga users so far.

I understand though that VSL people should wait to see the reaction to Kontakt new features before even wondering about a native kontakt version.

I don´t know other people, but a lot of this new features really look as if at NI were thinking on orchestral collections. Now, someone around here said at NI were talking with East West, so maybe they´re thinking on their new orchestral collection.

I would say..it´s time for some marketing strategy on VSL people! [:D]

What I´m obviously NOT expecting is VSL to jump for a kontakt version just because of this update, seeing how well-planed things always work better, but at least it should be apoint to consider and plan, and if possible talk to NI people to judge the market options...

...ok, enough rambling about things I ignore [*-)]

  • Hi netvudu,
Well, I don't expect Kontakt isn't able to import multi-layered gig-instruments. Before Kontakt I used Steinberg's HALion - there it runs perfectly - even the key-switching was working fine (ok - halion isn't a pleasure...)
I wrote to NI - maybe they can tell me about this.

  • I think with Halion you loose the "Giga dimensions" on import. Frankly, the only way I see for a perfect import (way too tedious) is to separate the layers at Gigastudio and then create youyr own programs in Kontakt or Halion.

  • Hi,
now, I don't loose the key-dimensions during halion-import. As I said - it works fine - with Advanced Orchestra and also with the VSL-Demos - no prob.
Can't imaging it would not funktion with kontakt. In kontakt (as I know so far) you can also directly set up the keys you want to have for the key-switch.
    Greetings

  • I stand corrected for Halion import then. Thanks so much.

As for kontakt info, I´m just basing my info on what people wrote at the NI forum. They seem to be able to use keyswitch with kontakt, but having problems with some multilayered Giga programs.
This being said, I´m not speaking first hand, so if your experience is different don´t doubt to comment on it.

I love to hear that programs work great. [:D]
