  • MIDI Fader Controller

I have a yamaha stage piano with no faders for automation and assigning velocity crossfades in the Vienna Instruments player etc...all it has is the simple pitch bend wheel and mod wheel.. [:(]

Anyone know if the Korg Nanokontrol would suit my needs?

    http://www.korg.co.uk/products/software_controllers/nano/sc_nano.asp

    Thanks in advance

  • I think that might be overkill.  At least it would for me but I'm not sure what your needs would dictate.  What's wrong with the mod wheel and pitch bend?  You do know that you can reassign them to something else after you recorded your expression or whatever.

  • Hello orchestranova

The NanoControl could be a good help and a good tool for drawing curves within your DAW.

    (Audiomixer - Volume Automation etc)

And it seems that this tool obviously supports several DAWs.

Further, it is a cheap solution for collecting experiences around the question "Midi-Controller".

Maybe you come to the following conclusion after purchase:

    You need

    • longer faderways
    • motor faders
    • etc.

But those matters are flying in an other money-sky.

If you think to use the NanoControl for the vienna instrument... I'm with jasensmith. Try first to use the mod wheel or the pitch wheel.

One of the fader tasks for the VI could be "Drawing the curve for the X-Fader".

My experience is that faders are not the tool for this often tricky job. Why?

Most time it isn't a question of a linear fading. Most time you need a very flat curve for crossing the layerlevels and a

short time later you need to make a steep slope for getting some changements.

So - for really good results ... and as usual:

It ends with the mouse... a lot of patience and a lot of time...

    All the best

    Beat

PS If you purchase the Nano tell us more about your experiences please.

  • Hi everybody, i use the Korg Nano now for one year. It is very easy to install and to use. Of course the fader-ways are not that long and you need some time in working small things out with the mouse...but for a fast change it´s perfect. First i tryed the Behringer BCF2000 - which has motor faders. But in fact it never works that way i wanted to (the fades should moved to the recorded curve - but thy never did) and it´s not so easy to programm like the korg nano... So i decided to keep the cheaper one. As DAW Controller (Logic) i use the Euphonix MC Control..and just one thing: Would be great if VE Pro and Instrument PRO would support the EuCon System..Mixing and movings Faders with the MC Control would be perfect...

Yes, that would be very cool to see my controlling hardware behaving this way, with moving faders.
