  • VIENNA MIR, INTEL I7 950 AND 24 GB RAM? IS A GOOD OPTION.

FOR MANY IS VERY EXPENSIVE, putting together a dual-processor system (xeon), with version (VIENA MIR SE) UNDERSTAND THAT WITH A I7 920 AND 12 GM OF RAM CAN HANDLE 32 INSTRUMENT S, AS ARE ALREADY OUT RAM 4GB MODULE planned to buy 12 GB RAM ( 3 x 4 GB) TO UPDATE AFTER A 24 GB, would indeed be justified?, MANY INSTRUMENTS COULD HANDLE THE STANDARD VERSION MIR WITH A I7 950 AND 24GB? It would be a table of equivalence will lead us to indicate how many could handle INSTRUMENTS WITH AN EXAMPLE AND I7 980X 24GB RAM, 950 I7 OR and 24GB RAM, REMEMBER THAT THE I7 950 APROX come down to 300 USD in August, it would be very ADSEQUIBLE FOR MANY IN THE USER MANUAL OF MIR was indicated that no overclock the CPU, this applies also if overclocking WITH AN ADEQUATE AIR COOLING AS A NOCTUA NH-D14 or WATER COOLING, THANKS. SORRY MY ENGLISH I SPEAK SPANISH.

  •  Hi Nelson,

We tested the standard MIR with an i7 950 with 12 GB RAM (1066MHz).

    Audio Latency          StereoVoices          Instruments          CPU

    256 Samples             890                          27                         65%

    512 Samples             1140                        32                         66%

    1024 Samples           1250                        36                         63%

If you want to play more voices with the same latency you'll get pops and clicks.

So you can see the bottle neck is not the CPU, it's the RAM Speed. So you would get more voices wit the i7 970 and 980 because their RAM Speed is 1333 MHz.

  • thanks for your answer, but do not understand what you indicate on the memory speed, as the i7 intel 980x and 970 have the same speed as the i7 950 ddr3 1066, data of procesors http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=47932&processor=i7-980X&spec-codes=SLBUZ http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=47933&processor=i7-970&spec-codes=SLBVF

  • interesting review of intel i7 950 and memory speed http://ixbtlabs.com/articles3/cpu/intel-ci7-950-p1.html And therefore would remain the question, for it would not be more efficient mir an intel i7 870 price low at 290 usd and 16 GB of memory ddr 1333 suported by I7 870, but according to the user manual mir says only used i7 900 series processors. info i7 870 http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=41315&processor=i7-870&spec-codes=SLBJG

  • So, what should be the best MIR computer up to date ? around 3000$-5000$ CAN ?

  • Hi,

Be aware, the 8xx series has just 2 memory channels while the 9xx series has 3. The Max memory bandwith is as well higher on the 9xx. The RAM speed was my fault. all i7 are running on 1066 MHz.

The question: "What is the best MIR Machine?" is difficult. The question is: Where you want to go. If you just have the Special Edition and want to mix in Mir you'll be fine with an i7 950. If you have the Super Package, want to mix in Mir and load as much Samples as possible you' ll running out of memory and CPU power.
