  • Preparing for VI Pro

I've been thinking about how I'm going to be integrating the new VI Pro, based on the announced features. One is the ability to use program changes for changing between articulations. I'm really happy about this new feature, and have come up with the idea to put my old 4 octave keyboard controller beside me, and configure it to "play" only program changes. I'm on Logic 9, and plan to set up a transformer object in the environment, that would transform each note to a program change (probably 0-47), for that keyboard only (maybe via a discrete mdi channel). Then play all the note/music on my main 88 key controller, and on a second pass, "play" the correct articulations on the other keyboard!

I'd be interested on comments, and other new work flow ideas [B]

  • Incredible enthusiasm here about my subject!!

I've also been thinking about for the Vl. I, having the corresponding Orchestral, Chamber and Solo patches going at once. I've tried that with the CH & S mixed down low and panned a little out, it sounds very "lush". This should be easy wi VI Pro. And to distinguish the first and second Violins, for the seconds I probably won't have the solo mixed in. Then with maybe a tad of EQ to taper the high end, and voila(!) a slightly different sounding section for the second violins !!!!

Keeps all your ideas coming..... [D]

  • I've done something similar, so I can already give you an advice: All logic au instruments receive program change on channel one as channel strip setting! (Took me a year, to find that out ...) I tried that with kontakt already. Just in case you wonder, why this won't work on channel one. And there's no way around that, I'm afraid, because you can't switch that feature off ...

  • Hi, I'm using program changes with Kontakt successfully.

I didn't know about the Logic thing, good to know. Hopefully VI Pro will be able to receive program changes on channel 2 with the other midi data being on channel 1. [Y]

Yeah, you only have channels 2 -16 available for Key Switching on PC ...
