The 64 bit VE Pro Server has been "hanging" on me overnight the last 2 nights.
My specs are below in my sig. Here's my orch template setup:
On the MacPro, I have Logic 9.1.1 64 bit mode. Then I have the 32 bit VE Pro server running one instance of VE Pro with 16 stereo channels of PLAY 2 (latest version, I checked). Once I set this VE Pro Server up, it has been totally rock solid. I've had no issues with this one.
I also have the 64 bit VE Pro Server running 3 instances of VE Pro.
1 is 16 stereo channels of Kontakt 4 (latest version, I checked) running LASS
violins and violas. These are routed back to 16 stereo aux returns in Logic
2 is 16 stereo channels of Kontakt 4 running LASS cellos and basses
3 is 16 stereo channels of Kontakt 4 running various perc and drum stuff like
SD 2, etc. as well as 2 Omnispheres and 2 Stylus RMX.
THIS is the server that always hangs overnight.
NOTE: that will all this open and running, I have 10 out of 17 Gig RAM free. Also, I am not using the Kontakt memory server.
I then have 1 instance of 32 bit VE Pro Server running on a remote slave that has 2 instances of VE Pro running the Vienna Special Edition, Extended/Plus. This server NEVER crashes either, it is rock solid.
So I leave a working system at night, to go hang with the family and then go to sleep. The next morning I will see that if I pass my cursor over the VE Pro 64 bit server window, or any of the interface windows, I will see the spinning beachball. The "Force Quit" menu will say that one of my VE Pros is "not responding".
This has happened twice on successive nights.
FIRST INSTANCE:
After seeing the spinning beachball, I'm surprised to find that every channel in my orch template still works. I can select tracks in Logic, and play to my hearts content on all tracks, even the ones assigned to the "hung" server.
So I save the 32 bit server Metaframe
I then attempt to save the Logic song. Now I get the VE Pro 64 bit server has "unexpectedly quit". Curiously, all three of the 64 bit VE Pro interface Windows are open and show "connected", but the server window is closed.
SO I tried to Force Quit Logic. On the Force Quit menu, I see that both VE Pro servers are still listed, even though OS X said the 64 bit one quit. Upon selecting Logic to force quit, the entire computer freezes and I get the dreaded Gray Curtain Of Death telling me to hold the power button down on my computer until it restarts.
I do that, repair permissions, restart again, and then open up my orch template and resume working until the end of the day, when again, I simply leave the studio and let my system stay on and running.
SECOND INSTANCE:
Again I come back the next day to find that a cursor move over the 64 bit VE Pro Server will give me the Spinning Beach Ball. The entire template works as before. On the Force Quit menu, the 64 bit server is listed as "not responding". 32 bit server is okay, and the remote slave is fine as always.
I try saving the Logic song, and this time this is successful.
I successfully force quit the 64 bit VE Pro Server. Again, the VE Pro interface windows (3) are still open and indicate "connected"
At this point, the Force Quit menu says Logic is "not responding". So I force quit that.
So anyway, with nothing running, and totally by itself, the VE Pro 64 bit server is hanging up for some reason with the system just sitting idle. I am emailing my crash reports and a copy of this post to support@vsl.co.at
Thanks!
