  • 3 instances of Ensemble causing problems

My setup:  I'm working with Logic 9.1 on a Mac Pro quad-core intel Xeon with 12 GB ram.

My problem: I built a template for my work consisting of three instances of Vienna Ensemble. 1 instance for Brass and Winds, 1 for Strings and 1 for Percussion.  I just realized when there are about 3 to 4 Instruments of each Ensemble instance playing at the same time there is a horrible stuttering and crackling going on. As if the three instances of Ensemble can't process the data.  The problem doesn't seem to come from Logic 9  but I might be wrong.   Is there a solution?

    Thank you!

    1. What's the memory usage of VE?
    2. Have you checked to see how Logic has allocated the cores of your computer?

  • Vienna Ensemble is much less efficient than Vienna Ensemble Pro regarding the audio transfer. I would recommend you to either do more pre-mixing in Vienna Ensemble, or upgrade to VE Pro.

    Hi,

just to add: You can test-drive VE PRO! Simply click "Try" on the product page and you will receive a free demo license activation code, that lets you use VE PRO for 30 starts/ 30 days. And you can even recharge these starts within these 30 days by clicking "Validate License Usage Periods" in the latest eLicenser Control Center.

    Best,

  • 1. The memory usage of each of the VE instances fluctuates between 2% and 7%

    2. Only 2 out of 8 cores seem to be active while I'm running 3 instances of VE.  Although the 2 cores show only very little activity. Thre are no peaks at all. I would say they operate in the 2 to 10% range.  Is it possible to allocate the cores differently?

    Thank you

    Felix

  • Hello Felix,

the cores are allocated automatically. But Vienna Ensemble is simply not up to speed, like Vienna Ensemble PRO, so I´d definitely give VE PRO a free test-run, just to see what changes.

Vienna Ensemble (non-Pro) runs with one processing thread per instance. Then there are a number of additional streaming threads for the instruments, which will be spread out over all available cores (virtual or physical).
