  • Consolidating VEPs outputs into Digital Performer

    I'm running VEP on my host computer. I have 7 instances of VEP, each with an instance of Kontakt, in the VEP server. I'd like to consolidate the number of inputs from VEP. Is there a way to bus all of the outputs from the VEP server to a pair of stereo inputs in Digital Performer?? Right now it appears that I need to create at least seven aux inputs in DP to accommodate the outputs from each instance of VEP. I'd also like to be able to run an additional send to an instance of Altiverb hosted in DP, as far as I can tell this requires 14 aux in's in DP. Alternately I could host all 7 instances in one VEP instance, but it doesn't appear that I can address more than 16 midi channels per instance of VEP in DP, even though I can see 8 banks of midi channels available per instance of VEP. Any suggestions? all those aux in's are crushing my cpu in DP. I've been running Bidule but I think VEP is much more sophisticated and I really want to take advantage of VEP'S latency compensation.

    1.  You can't "consolidate" outputs of different instances. Each plugin instance will always come with at least one output.
    2. The Au spec only allows 1 MIDI port per instance. The others that you can see are for VST and RTAS users.

  • To be specific, only VST3 and RTAS currently allow multiple MIDI input ports, AU and VST2 are still limited to a single MIDI input port.

  • Hehe. There actually aren't that many VST3 hosts out there. Most of them (including VE Pro Server/standalone) support VST2 only, for sensible reasons.


  • Makes sense that each instance of VEP operates independently. It would be cool if there was some sort of master bus available in the server though. If I run VEP freestanding I suppose I can do what I do with Bidule which is to use my hardware interfaces (2408's) to route into DP. That'll allow me to consolidate my inputs into DP. will I sacrifice the latency compensation if I do that?? I think the shortcoming is DP'S BTW. It shouldn't tax the cpu as much as it does to simply add 14 aux inputs.
