  • Vienna Ensemble Configuration

Hello, I´m trying to understand the vsl ensemble and the work with Sibelius. For now, I have five Instruments started (Violin I + II, Viola, Cello, Contrabass), all in Orchestra Mode. In Sibelius I have "VSL Ensemble Special Edition Plus" as Sound Set selected. Also I have done the Performance Guide (Map Control and Velocity x-fade) At the moment I have the problem to understand the difference between controlling "Control Edit->V-Span (Speed or Controller)" What do I have to choose? I think that V-Span->Controller is better, because when I use "pizz." with Speed vsl is allways using pizz-snap. H-Span is controlled by Keyswitch. Is this correct? regards Torsten

    Hello Torsten

Within the Vienna Instrument you are able to open up to 12 matrices.

Each of these matrices can contain a field with cells (12 x 12 for example)

You need the V-Span Controller and the H-Span-Controller for moving within this cells of the matrix.

Compare this Image: Select an Articulation within VI

Example: If you load the samples "sustain into A0, portato long into A1, portato short into A2, staccato long into A3, staccato short into A4" in the horizontal A-Row it could be

great to use the speed-controller-function in this case. The faster you play the higher the "value" of A. So slow playing means A0 > faster A2 > even faster A3 and A4.

    Hope that helped a bit

    All the best
