  • A soundcard question..

Hello! First of all i'd like to appologize for my english.. I'm planning to start composing music with a help of VSL instruments but i'm not sure if my soundcard is supported.. E-mu 1820 it is. Does your software work with this card or i should look for a better one? Thanks.

  • it should work fine with that card.  It has full ASIO 2.0 drivers which means it shouldn't have any issues.  There are some people using the cheap EMU 1212's around here.  And those work fine, so yours should be just fine too.

  • EMU's are pretty good. A lot people say go M-Audio although they don't support XP x64 anymore, so keep that in mind. Personally I would like to get a RME HDSP 9632 or 9652 due to the onboard ASIO. As it stands I use a 1212M.

  • I'd steer well clear of M-Audio, their history of drivers compatability is one of the worst.

  • Thanks! I also got another question.. I'm planning to buy new computer (to run MIR well) this week and i wonder if i have to buy a new soundcard if i plan to connect my old computer to a new one.. Or can i somehow use my e-mu on one computer and do well?

  •  Do check that your soundcard has multi-client drivers if you intend to run MIR on the same PC.

  • E-mu is to release new pack of drivers for win7, as far as i know, and i can't find the info on multi-client support.. So if there will be no such function then i should buy a new card, right? And what i actually meant (sorry for my english) is that i have a PC with DAW and some plugins installed on it and running well, but im going to buy a new one specially for MIR. Will i be able to connect them somehow and keep the new one as a storage for MIR and all Vienna software while mixing and recording on an old one? I mean that there will be no special soundcard on a new PC.. Or should i reinstall everything on a new computer, install MIR and my sound card on it and forget about the old PC? I'm new to the whole thing, so sorry if it is a stupid question )

For Vienna MIR, please make sure that the audio system supports latency settings with powers of 2 (eg. 128, 256, 512, 1024 etc. samples).

BTW: There will be an new MIR manual online in a few days, featuring a new chapter with detailed information these topics.

    Kind regards,
