  • New DAW for MIR - XI-Machines?

I have actually had the MIR software for some time - but has not had the machine to run it.

But now I am going to have one and i have been looking at the XI-Machines VSL3 Ultra but with some addtions

I have decided that I wan´t to run everything on one machine, so it has to be very powerfull and I would ask for the new 6 core XEON5670.

Does anybody have experiences with XI-Machines?

    The configuration is something like:

    2x XEON5670

    24Gb Ram 1333MHz

A Rapture for system OR a SDD Kingston V+

Two RAID5 for audio and libraries (don´t know is its possible to have 2 Raids, otherwise just additional harddisks )

Maybe an additional 256Gb SDD for Vienna Imperial and other piano's.

I´m a bit unsure about the SSD´s though - they are expensive and I don´t know how the actual perform in a DAW context.

The Raptor is probably faster - but it also noisy, and I wan´t silence in my studio :-)

I know that DAW configuratiosn has been discussed in prev. threads - but technology moves onas well as our requirements.

So if any one has a take on the above, including expected MIR configuration size and low latency performance, i would very much appreciate it.

  • Hi Bjarne,

actually, XI-Machines are on our list of certified workstation assemblers:

They know very well about the In's and Out's when it comes to computers which are meant to be used with demanding software like Vienna MIR. I would say it is a good idea to tell them your needs, and to let _them_ do the work ;-)

    Kind regards,

  •  thx - Dietz. I am now in contact with XI Machines, discussing a setup :-)

  • Ask them if you can run your samples from a "floppy drive" and see what they say!!  :).

  •  thx Dietz

Yes, I know of the company - I think it is the only company which supports the PPG and I'm actually going to order the Eproms with the newer OS and also their keyboard repair kit. [:)]
